Presidents Update Hispanic Serving Institutions Grants to qualify for this grant our student population must be approx. 25% Hispanic and half of that number must qualify for or be on financial aid. Currently, 25% of out students are Hispanic and 37% of those student qualify for financial aid. We have been involved in various outreach efforts and will continue those efforts to qualify for this grant which is worth $750,000 the first year. A community leaders roundtable/discussion will be held Sept. 23, in the Presidents office to help further our efforts. A group of staff members are working on the Strategic Plan presentation that will go to the Governing Board on Oct. 27. The president, vice-president, senior dean and math dept. chair met with the principal and other staff at Pittsburg HS to discuss math pre-requisites. 2. (cont.) At the Classified Staff Development Retreat, a list of responses to the Ed Master Plan goals was developed and forwarded to the president. This document will be sent to the Classified SGC reps and then to the entire SGC. District has not adopted a budget for 04-05. Presidents will be meeting with the Interim Chancellor and the Vice Chancellors on Sept. 8 to discuss issues related to trends and growth of management by site.  Senates Report Academic Senate faculty are generally pleased about the upcoming college assembly being devoted to budget issues and the core remodel conversations that will be held in the future. The three SGC reps were unanimously re-elected to their positions for one year. Classified Senate due to furloughs and many departments closing on Friday afternoon, the senate has requested that their meeting time be changed from Fridays to Monday afternoon on the same days that the Academic Senate meets. Associated Students have a Rock the Vote committee established and meeting to register students. Students are starting a fundraiser involving the Ӱɴý mascot removal and relocation for a donation. Curriculum Cte. Kiran Kamath will be the SGC rep and Don Kaiper will be the alternate for this year. The committees 3rd meeting is scheduled for Sept. 15. The cte. is working to streamline processes and include an annual calendar on the web page. . 3. (cont.)Grants we received a grant from the National Association of Foreign Student Advisors for an International Hip Hop Week. The NSF grant will be submitted next month and we are working on the Hispanic Serving Institutions grant. Strategic Planning Report Group reps distributed and reviewed the bullet points for the SGC portion of the report to the Governing Board. Consensus was reached by the group to move forward with the presentationAccreditation Update Richard Livingston distributed a draft of the mid-term report which is due March 05. After a brief discussion, the Council requested time on the next agenda to review the document prior to approving and forwarding to the Governing Board.. Campus Climate/Behavioral Expectations Richard Livingston brought forward the issue of negative student behaviors recently observed by many staff and students on campus. This issue was discussed at Presidents Cabinet and a cte. consisting of Newin Ornate, Thais Kishi and Jorge Cea will be meeting to discuss the issue and possible solutions to bring back to the Cabinet and SGC. Shirley Baskin volunteered to be part of the group and others (including students and classified staff) will be recruited to work on this issue. The program content of the campus video monitors was briefly discussed. The contract and content is currently being reviewed.SGC requests reports from this group as future agenda items.Mentoring Student Reps Shirley Baskin volunteered to work with new rep. Bryer Bly and Delores McNair volunteered to facilitate informational meetings with the student reps as she had done last year.
