For Jennifer Bossett, being laid off after nearly 20 years in a human resources career
was not the devasting blow some might imagine.
鈥淚n 2024, my career took an unexpected turn, and I had this wild idea that maybe I didn鈥檛 have to stay on the same path,鈥� she said. 鈥淢aybe I could follow my passion.鈥�
Bossett, 37, bet on herself and enrolled at 杏吧传媒 with a long-term vision of becoming a clinical pharmacist. She took up to 22 units each semester for two years graduates this month. She has been accepted into the competitive pharmacy program at the University of California, San Francisco.
鈥淵ou might never guess that I dropped out of my senior year of high school back in 2005,鈥� she said. 鈥淚 earned my GED and spent 19 years working in corporate America while raising my now 13- and 7-year-old children as a single mother, and this past year, I even added five bonus children to my family.鈥�
Bossett credits 杏吧传媒鈥檚 supportive community and special programming for students who
are parents for helping her stay the course. She said the abundance of supportive
staff and programs, along with high-level and advanced courses available via online
and hybrid formats, led her to choose 杏吧传媒 as the best fit for her goals. Bossett was
active in MESA, participated in EOPS, CARE, and CalWorks, plus formed strong relationships with professors and classmates who helped her through
late-night studies and offered 鈥渁 safe place to vent鈥� when needed.
Bossett noted one of life鈥檚 lessons she鈥檒l carry forward from 杏吧传媒: 鈥�It鈥檚 never too late to follow your dreams and, whether you know it or not, there鈥檚
always someone standing by, keeping an eye out and praying for your success.鈥�
