Cindy is on the Degrees and Certificates Task Force. She is soliciting input on the following question Do we value degrees and certificates at Ӱɴý?. The TLP connection to this Task Force might be via the accreditation standards requirement that degrees and certificates be awarded based on SLO attainment. Nancy and Richard Tan plan to attend the regional training for SLO coordinators on April 11th. Implementing the Assessment Cycle: An Example from Developmental Education (Myra and Nancy) Myra and Nancy modeled assessment as inquiry by presenting data relevant to DE Program Goal 2: Effectively integrate instruction and academic support services: tutoring, labs, supplemental instruction, Reading and Writing Center, counseling services, assessment, and learning communities. Make recommendations based on systematic assessment of these services, and periodically report to the college community on their effectiveness. Effective Learner SLO: Demonstrate the characteristics, habits, and attitudes of an effective learner The TLP analyzed data on DE student usage of the lab services, specifically the math lab and the Reading and Writing Center the results of an academic engagement survey given to students in 1st-level transfer math (Statistics) and English (English 100), where the responses of students previously enrolled in DE courses were compared to the responses of students who had never taken a DE course at Ӱɴý. The group made the following observations: Students of color are using lab services at rates comparable to white students. Students who had taken a DE course at Ӱɴý report that they use support services and find these services useful at higher rates than other students. Both groups of students are not using office hours. Suggested responses/next steps: Collect data on lab usage for another semester to see if the increases in usage from FA 05 to FA 06 are sustained. Consider designing professional development on the effective use of office hours. English 70 students arent using the Reading and Writing Center at significant rates; ask the English Department what can be done to increase usage. Should the English lab be reinstituted to address grammar issues, etc. that are not addressed in the R&WC? The goal of this exercise was to model what could occur in the future in the five committees (DE, GE, Occ. Ed., Student Services, L&LSS). In other words, the committees consider data relevant to ISLOs from across disciplinary silos in an attempt to identify interventions that require institutional commitment. Next Steps in Encouraging Implementation of the Assessment Cycle in all TLP areas and Program Review Units The Student Services SLO Committee will be asked to decide how they want to proceed with giving feedback to Student Service units on assessment-related work and SLOAC section of program review. &LMNV C K L M [ \ 6 8 : ; < H M N e 23xzι浭ΡΚ{rnhh h aJh OJQJhyyOJQJhhw)hyyOJQJh hyyhyy hds>* hmhyyhyyhyyH*hyy hmhm hx"Mhm hx"Mhyyhmhm>*hP hPhP hP>*hm hyy5hmh X5hmhm5+&8KLMN B C L M [ \ ; < `gdyyl a & FgdyygdmgdP$a$gdm N 3MNz_'yyzgduq & F ^gdgdQi & Fgd & Fgd gdm`gdyyl a & Fgd & Fgd l aLNyz'yyz hh h>*hmhm>* h huqhx"MhhQihm hm>*h hyygdm,1h/ =!"#$% @@@ NormalCJ_HaJmH sH tH DAD Default Paragraph FontRiR Table Normal4 l4a (k(No ListHC@H yyBody Text Indent `aJ "&8KLMN BCLM[\;<N3MNz_' y y z 000000000000000 0 0 00000 0 000 0 000 0 0 000 0 0 0000000&8KLMBCLM[\;<N3MN 000000000000 0 0 000000 0K0000K00K00K00K00 M+ xM+ O M+\lM+ O M+iM+ ^M+ N M+LM+ M+d M+ $ M+|h M+i M+_ M+ |M+dNM+|kM+gss{##+ nz*11 = *urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags PlaceType= *urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags PlaceNameh*urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttagsCity0http://www.5iamas-microsoft-com:office:smarttagsV*urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttagsplacehttp://www.5iantlavalamp.com/ L lvx = B NCK:<} 33333M LL;;& x xx bzdBpHJSIuTn +w#D;}"Nڊ^`o(.h^`OJQJo(hH pLp^p`LhH. @ @ ^@ `hH. ^`hH.
