Announcements Feedback on Opening Day has been very positive. Assessing our progress in achieving the goals of the Educational Master Plan is a form of institutional level assessment. If the SGC writes some kind of annual report on that assessment, we should post it on the TLP website to document it for future accreditation visits. Gil, Nancy, Janice and Margaret did speak with a sales rep from CurricuNet to discuss the possibility of them customizing a module for us on program review that would include documenting course level assessment. We will begin using this software in Fall 2009 to track the writing and management of all our course outlines of record. We are not quite ready to move forward with this additional module, but may consider it in another year. Janice and Nancy offered a flex workshop on writing course outlines last week. About 10 faculty members attended and successfully wrote course outlines- or at least got a substantial start on them. Feedback was very positive and there are plans to run more of these workshops in the future, particularly during the summer session. Kiran inquired about the presentation to our Board of Governors about assessment at Ӱɴý. Nancy reported that she showed them the TLP website and went over specific examples of assessment cycles at different levels. The presentation was well received. Richard noted that although we have not yet received official word from the accreditation team we should expect a recommendation that we need to get our course outlines of record updated, and that we need to get started on course level assessment. Julie announced that Ӱɴý developmental math won an Exemplary Award from the state Academic Senate and the plaque is in the mail. She also shared news that at the CMC3 math conference, Wade Ellis, a noted leader in the state for math education, shared examples of program level math SLOs from different colleges and the group at the conference session agreed that Ӱɴýs were the best! ( Now DVC wants to see them) Go Ӱɴý Math program! Review of Assessment Plans/Reports from Program Review In general, we agreed that assessment plans and reports should be made available on the Planning website with the program review/planning documents for ease of access. Nancy would like to see assessment plans and reports uniformly linked to an institutional process like program review to ensure that it is fully integrated and systematic in its implementation. Joellen would like to see a more user friendly technology that makes it easier for people to see which form they need to use and where to get it; Cherry believes we can accomplish that goal. Our goal for todays meeting was to decide on who should give feedback on assessment plans and reports submitted, and what should be included in that feedback. After reviewing a few examples of assessment reports, we agreed to address the following in our feedback: Review the PSLOs and give feedback on whether or not they are appropriate in scope for the courses they might include under their umbrella. If an assessment report was submitted, thank the program for their work, personalize the feedback in some way, and indicate next steps, e.g.let them know that in Fall 2009 a new assessment plan will need to be written, send them a copy of the planning template and how to access it electronically, and give some direction about course level assessment as well as a recommendation about whether or not they should move on to assessing a different PSLO. If an assessment plan was submitted, thank the program for their planning work, and send a blank report format reminding them that they will need to report out on the assessment in Fall 2009- and let them know how to access the report form electronically If nothing was submitted, send a blank planning template, tell them how to access it electronically, and ask them to complete the planning process this semester and submit the written plan with their Fall 2009 program review and planning update. Advise them to seek help from TLP if needed. We noted that we should add a space on the report forms where people can write in how they closed the loop as they indicated they would on their previous report form. We also need to revise the planning templates to indicate when a program level assessment is also a course level assessment, e.g. English 90 is both a course level assessment and an assessment for the English DE program. We also reviewed a list of categories of programs and who would review them and made some changes. The following list is still tentative and open for discussion. The Student Services committee will review: Matriculation ( Assessment/Orientation) EOPS DSPS Cooperative Education Outreach Admissions and Records Career Development Financial Aid Student Activities/ӰɴýAS Counseling Transfer Programs & Services Athletics Information Center The Library and Learning Support committee will review: Tutoring Reading and Writing Center Learning Resources/Library The General Education Committee will review: Art Astronomy Behavioral Science Social Science Speech Drama Physical Science Philosophy Physical Education Environmental Science? The Developmental Education committee will review: DE English DE Math Umoja? The Occupational Education committee will review: Graphic Arts Journalism Computer Science Administration of Justice Appliance Service Technology Automotive Technology Business Child Development Electrical Technology Emergency Medical Services Fire Technology Nursing RN and LVN Process Technology Recording Arts Travel Welding The TLP will review Majors/Transfer Biology Chemistry Engineering Physics Foreign Language ESL Transfer English Transfer math Honors? Puente? We will not ask any of these committees to begin the work of reviewing assessment plans/reports and give feedback until we have practiced it in the TLP meeting with the programs in the Majors/Transfer categories. We will do this at our next meeting in February. Nancy will provide a draft feedback form based on our conversation in todays meeting. 7 : ; < J B C [ !567nJj901D78N Y !!!ÿݻh%h h'hth6dh,}hVth&5>*h&h$hW/hVth.)5>*h.)h hVth 5-&789 ; < J K C 67no1 & Fgd6dgd& & Fgd.)gd $a$gd !1FGst!1;OPgdt & Fgd6d'.4EPcz{ &@gd%gdt@]s| 89AKW_pt!gdtgd%!!!!!!gdW/gdt,1h/ =!"#$% @@@ NormalCJ_HaJmH sH tH DAD Default Paragraph FontRiR Table Normal4 l4a (k@(No List0&789;<JKC6 7 n o 1 FGst!1;OP'.4EPcz{ &@]s| 89AKW_pt 00000000000 0 0 0 0 0 00000000 0 0 0 000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000!1@!!!xR<<xR\~xRTׇxR؇xR\هxRهxR ۇxRLۇxRۇxRЇxR чxRdӇxRD?xR,?xRl?xR? !!*<<H )00GNN 8*urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttagsCity9*urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttagsplace= *urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags PlaceType= *urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags PlaceName tp cyz 33333333<Jf!O ulBra2 ,^`o(. ^`hH. pLp^p`LhH. @ @ ^@ `hH. ^`hH.
