Online course addendum regarding the GE speaking requirement was reworded and will be forwarded to the Curriculum and Online Committees. (See next page.) 3. Final wording changes to Program Level Student Learning Outcomes and the accompanying assessment criteria were approved. They will be forwarded to the Curriculum Committee for inclusion into the new handbook. (See separate attachment for language.) 4. Process: The group decided that the appropriate organizational process, given its subordination to both the Curriculum Committee and to the Teaching and Learning Project, is to forward work to the Curriculum Committee for approval since it has been officially legislated to handle curricular issues. 5. The group considered and approved as a model course outline for integration of GE criteria Humanities 20LS: Introduction to Medieval/Renaissance Humanities, written by Ken Alexander with help from Myra Snell. It will be used as an example of good practice in the Curriculum Handbook, currently in production. There was some discussion about the grading system integration with assessment, however, and the committee recommended taking a less daunting approach. 6. The meeting was adjourned 10 minutes late, leaving the balance of the agenda for Fall 2005: How will GE outcomes not included in the Big Five be assessed? For example, content-based outcomes like Quantitative Literacy Suggested modification to the online course Supplement to the Course Outline of Record For completely online GE courses only: How do you propose to integrate the oral communication (speaking) criterion into your completely online course? Explain how the course will incorporate both aspects of the oral communication criterion in a completely online course. (Reviewed by the GE Committee) GE courses are required to provide regular opportunities for students to explore ideas and communicate orally. Explain how such small group activities will be achieved in a completely online course using technologies such as: Telephone (teleconference/web conference) Synchronous Chat Other similar technology In GE courses, students should demonstrate the ability to speak effectively both in small groups and whole class presentations.
