Minutes of November 10 approved. No GE course outlines to review. Spring meeting schedule: 2nd Thursday of the month from 1:30 – 3:00 on Feb.9, March 9, April 13 and May 11. Coordination with Planning Committee Cindy and Nancy reported on recent conversations with Planning Committee, of which Cindy is a member. Cindy reported that the reports requested from those who receive FPM funding have been revised to include language about learning outcomes. Nancy discussed ideas that she and Myra have shared with Planning Committee about revising the current program review process to accommodate new accreditation standards, and allow faculty to focus more specifically on areas they are interested in assessing. The first step would be for program faculty to articulate program level outcomes for their majors or departments. Myra and Nancy are willing to give workshops or work with specific departments if they request help with this process. Honors and Assessment Cindy and Scott are both on the Honors Board and reported that there is a subcommittee of that Board that is interested in conducting some kind of evaluation/assessment of the Honors Committee. Nancy will meet with Jennifer Saito to discuss this further, and to explore the possibility that Honors is interested in being “Pilot D” of our assessment plan. Fall 2005 Critical Thinking Teaching Communities Nancy updated the committee on the status of our pilots to assess critical thinking in GE: Pilot A: There will be a flex workshop in January to conduct our third holistic scoring of student work in Ethnic/Multicultural Studies. We also hope do discuss plans for a handbook on teaching Ethnic/Multicultural Studies. Pilot B: Faculty in the Creative Arts and Humanities are working on representing their work by using KEEPTOOL, a webpage template for capturing the work that faculty are doing in their classroom. Pilot C: There will be a second holistic scoring of student work in the Social Sciences in December. That pilot will continue next semester. TLP report Brief update on the status of TLP. Nancy reported that student services is ready to start their pilot in Spring 06. There will be a three hour meeting of the TLP on Tuesday, Feb.21 from 2-5 to discuss ideas for program assessment at the level of each of the five major areas. Anyone is welcome to attend, but Senate President and Curriculum Chair are specifically invited. Backburner Issues We discussed goals for the GE committee for Spring 2006, and agreed that we might need to go back to Academic Senate for a reconsideration of our membership and charge.
