Agenda approved: Committee later agreed to transpose items 4 and 5. 2. Minutes of Oct. 11 meeting approved with modification: In item 3, paragraph 4, line 3 change “the five GE PSLOs” to “the five GE ISLOs.” The original electronic copy of the minutes has been revised. 3. Upcoming meetings n№ December meeting: Do we need one? The committee agreed that we do, indeed, need a meeting Dec. 13. But, because it will occur during finals week, the time was moved up to start at 2 p.m. and end at 3:30 p.m. n№ Spring meeting schedule: The committee agreed to meet on the same schedule, the second Thursday of the month, 3:30 to 5 p.m. 4. GE Guidelines for Curriculum Committee website: Ken and Cindy presented the draft “Integrating General Education SLOs into your course outlines” as a how-to for posting on the Curriculum Committee website. Committee members generally liked the idea of adding a set of instructions on how to infuse the GE SLOs into course outlines using appropriate language and methodology. A few edits were suggested: n№ That language be added to the Integrating& draft recommending to course authors that they consider writing an introductory rationale explaining how their courses meet each GE student learning outcome. n№ That language be added to the Integrating& draft explaining that one of the reasons explicit and/or embedded inclusion of GE criteria is necessary for each course outline is so that readers do not have to go on a treasure hunt when evaluating course outlines for approval. The committee approved the document in principle with the understanding that Cindy, Ken and Nancy would work together to make the appropriate revisions prior to posting on the website. 5. GE Course Outlines and Addendum n№ HUMAN 40: There were a few questions for Ken about Opera: The Human Experience in Music, Voice and Drama, then the committee endorsed the outline and recommended it be sent to the Curriculum Committee as meeting a GE requirement in Humanities. n№ ENV SCI 10, 15 and 20: Nancy reported she has been working with the course outlines author on additional revisions, and that they are coming along nicely. Since there is a time crunch for getting these courses through GE and to the Curriculum Committee by the end of the semester, the committee agreed in principle that the courses could be approved for GE with the revisions discussed at the previous GE meeting and in collaboration with Nancy. n№ MUSIC 10: No revised Music Literature outline submitted in time for this meeting 6. Information Literacy: Should we revive the discussion? Cindy gave background on the LMC Academic Senate s decision a year ago to ignore advice by the State Academic Senate to add an information literacy requirement. She brought it back up again because, during the accreditation self-study research last spring, information literacy was mentioned several times in the standards, and since we had decided that the charge of GE went beyond SLOs to all graduation requirements, it might be in our purview. Richard clarified that while the State Academic Senate can make recommendations, it cannot mandate compliance, but suggested that it is something worthy of further consideration at агАЩДЋУН. Christina said that as an instructional librarian, the initiative is something she would like to tackle from that perspective. Committee members agreed that it goes beyond the GE SLOs we are currently focusing on, and as a broader requirement is something we should leave to others and not take on as GE. 7. 11-year GE SLO Professional Development Plan n№ Update on planning for Spring seminars: Cindy reported that the three GE Seminars are a go for the spring semester, and will be held on Monday Feb. 4, March 31 and April 28 during the 3-5 p.m. meeting block. Since they will be required for all full-timers and recommended for part-timers, an informational packet will go out soon to give folks enough advance notice to plan their calendars. Nancy floated a draft of the “Participant Worksheet for GE SLO Seminar #1” explaining that she hoped to keep the preparations simple and to the point. A suggested was made to change to wording of item number two from “Explain…” to “Discuss…” Nancy indicated that each of the four to five GE “box” groups would need a facilitator, who would be paid a $500 stipend for the semester, and that they would be selected by group members in the spring. In the meantime, it was decided that members of the GE committee would serve in a support role to help facilitators with the first meeting. We also talked about the need to keep the seminars inviting and decided it would be a good idea to have light snacks. n№ Update on planning for GE forum: Cindy reported that the forum requested by Mark Lewis has been scheduled for Thursday Nov. 15, 3-5 p.m. in room 213. Nancy mentioned that we might consider having a forum on each of the GE criteria as part of the kick-off for each new phase of the 11-year GE Plan. Pam wondered if it might be a good idea for the GE faculty to meet regularly in much the same way that the Occupational Ed faculty do. 8. Reading, Writing and Speaking SLO n№ January Flex update: Gil reported th3Cођ% _ ё Д Ж Z œžуфТђєЊ>o""h%В%Д%Ж%&0225 5п67:<є<ќїќїќїќїќэќэќїќэќэќэќїќэќэќэќїќїќэќэќїќэќыќэќэќїќыќUh’xuCJOJQJ h’xu5h’xu30123мно% & № ё В Д Y Z [ ё ђ šœуф§ћііієєєєєєєєєюююєєєєфффо„а`„а „а„<^„а`„<„а^„а$a$є<ўфžŸТУ№ђКЛІЈЊ PQ =>?op‰Š|§§§§§їёїёї§§§чїїїчї§§§§їёї „а„а^„а`„а„а`„а„а^„а|}д е K!L!f%h%В%Д%ƒ1„155н6о6п6у9ф9х90<1<I<J<<ž<љљљљѓљюььљљљѓљььфььььѓьљз „а1$4$7$8$H$^„а1$7$8$H$dh„а`„а„а^„аat the flex sub-committee met recently to begin planning for the Linda Elder presentation Jan. 9 and 10 that will serve to kick off the move to phase 2 of the 11-year GE Plan focusing on the reading, writing and speaking SLO. Cindy and Ken have volunteered to handle PR, and they will send out paper and electronic letters and fliers to remind GE faculty to sign up for this flex event. n№ Richard Paul workshop opportunity Feb. 29-March 2: Gil reported that he has been in contact with the Foundation for Critical Thinking, and they will offer us a group discount greater than that advertised online if we register 12 or more by Jan. 18 for the Teaching Design workshop. Cindy will get information out to faculty after the GE Seminar and January flex information has been distributed. n№ Professional development on speaking: Cindy reported that she had solicited information on possible workshop presenters in response to a request during the fall flex GE workshop for more professional development on how to integrate speaking into GE course instruction. Shiela, who teaches speech, volunteered to work up a proposal. 9. GE and COORS: Who should review revised outlines? Nancy explained that there appears to be a process problem in that some revised GE course outlines have been going directly to the Curriculum Committee, bypassing GE. Cindy indicated that from the inception of the GE Committee in 1999 as a sub-committee of CC, all GE course outlines, both new and revised, have gone to GE first unless there was an extenuating circumstance. It was mentioned there might now be a problem in identifying which courses are GE since the LS is no longer a title-embedded flag. We decided that the Office of Instruction should play traffic cop to ensure that all GE courses go to GE first, and that there should be explicit direction about the process available for course outline authors. The remaining agenda items, 10 and 11, were tabled until a future meeting: 10. GE and Distance Ed 11. GE Philosophy: How do we begin updating the language that defines our program? The meeting adjourned at 5 p.m. Next meeting: Thursday, Dec. 13, 203:30 p.m., L-105. ž<Ÿ<є<ђщ 1$4$7$8$H$ „а1$4$7$8$H$^„а,1hАа/ Ар=!А"А# $ %ААаАа а†œD@ёџD NormalCJ^J_HaJmH sH tH DAђџЁD Default Paragraph FontVi@ѓџГV Table Normal :V і4ж4ж laі (k@єџС(No List 6>@ђ6 Title$a$ 5:CJ$6J@6 Subtitle$a$6DCD Body Text Indent „а`„аB'Ђ!B Comment ReferenceCJaJ828 Comment TextCJЄ@џџџџ0123мно%&№ёйкYZ[ёђПРеж‘ДЕЎo p У Ф Х џ Р С { | ЎЏпрij\]ДЕ+,прЏА>?Ž“”•рсљњВбБЗАПІГѓŽ0ЖФГѓŽ0ЖФГѓŽ0ЖФГѓŽ0ЖФГѓŽ0ЖФГѓŽ0ЖФГѓŽ0ЖФГѓŽ0ЖФГѓŽ0ЖФГѓŽ0ЖФГѓŽ0ЖФГѓŽ0ЖФГѓŽ0ЖФГѓŽ0ЖФГѓŽ0ЖФГѓŽ0ЖФГѓŽ0ЖФГѓŽ0ЖФГѓŽ0ЖФГѓŽ0ЖФГѓŽ0ЖФГѓŽ0ЖФГѓŽ0ЖФГѓŽ0ЖФГѓŽ0ЖФГѓŽ0ЖФГѓŽ0ЖФГѓŽ0ЖФ˜0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖԘ0ЖФЖФє<ф|ž<є<є<џџ С^ДњQ С^ь‰f С^œчbС^м#_С^Ќ$UС^ 1`С^ќ;bС^дЏxС^”DmС^ќYTС^ XjС^tjeС^\‰`С^м9ШШШh h jj]]ФФууФФІ ЭЭm m oobbЩЩъъЩЩІ 8 *€urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags€City€9*€urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags€place€ 0Ьџ ЯдмтМСІ333їeўџџџ§џџџAўџџџўџџџўџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџRoot Entryџџџџџџџџ РF>\ЩC€1Tableџџџџџџџџ!-WordDocumentџџџџџџџџ.@SummaryInformation(џџџџ/DocumentSummaryInformation8џџџџџџџџџџџџ7CompObjџџџџџџџџџџџџqџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџўџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџўџ џџџџ РFMicrosoft Office Word Document MSWordDocWord.Document.8є9Вq
