REVIEW REVISED COOR FORM A sub-committee (Myra, Nancy, Laurie, Ken, Richard and Kiran) met 3 times after the last regular Curriculum Committee meeting to design a revised COOR to respond to the goals established at the retreat in early March. (See retreat minutes). The cover page of the proposed new COOR form is almost the same except for a few prompts. Pages 2 and 3 have been revised and are in a column format with Program level Student Learning Outcomes, Course level Student Level Outcomes, Assessment criteria, Assignments, and Grading. Pages 2 and 3 are developed from a learner perspective. Pages 4 and 5 are from the instructor perspective. The Curriculum Committee decided to have a mini-retreat on April 21 from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm to evaluate some completed models to determine if the proposed new COOR is workable in practice. We will need to determine adoption timelines after this mini-retreat if this new form is adopted. REVIEW REVISED 900 FORM Summary of discussion: Can a 900 course satisfy a degree and/or a certificate requirement? There is no reference to this in Title V. How do we handle this? Middle ground would be to distinguish between a core and elective course for degree applicability. 900 courses are not transferable. What is the rationale for 900 courses? Why do we offer them? Majority of 900 courses are developed by Occ. Ed. Departments to keep up with industry demands. There is often an 18-month gap between the time a COOR is approved and added to the catalog. Some courses need to be offered before this 18-month period. To test a new course. We need to raise the standard or rigor of 900 course outlines. Include more prompts on the 900 course outline to demand more detailed information and improve quality of course outlines. We need to clarify the duration and number of times a 900 course can be offered. The 3 semester limit is not accurate. Perhaps a maximum of 3 times in a 24 month period. REVIEW REVISED PRE-/CO-REQUISITE FORM This discussion was tabled to the retreat on April 21. UPDATE FROM SHARED GOVERNANCE COUNCIL REPRESENTATIVE Tabled until May 5th meeting. Our next meeting (mini retreat) will be Wednesday, April 21 from 1:30 3:00 or 3:30. The agenda will be: Continue discussion of proposed new COOR form with models and samples Review revised 900 form Review revised prerequisite form and determine adoption timeline May 5th Agenda to include: What are our criteria for approving pre-requisites (Academic Senate By-Laws) and address standards? Are there additional criteria to Title V requirements to be considered?
