For example, Humberto Sale reported that there were disproportional differences for all ethnic groups in ENGL 10S. He also stated that when disproportional impact is found, the institution needs to develop a plan to address it. The portion of the plan for the Curriculum Committee would include the 2001 change from advisory to mandatory placement in English and Math courses. (M/S;Ybarra.Boehme) Unanimous Online Course Approval None for Review Prerequisites None for Review Curriculum Calendar Janice asked the committee to pilot a process for reviewing course outlines at the final Spring 2009 meeting. Three groups were chosen from the voting membership. Yellow Team Castillo, Von Bergen, Subia, Adkins Blue Team Ybarra, Yamakoshi, Boehme, Dearman Red Team Huffman, Moore, Goff Eileen Valenzuela will have a 2 minute timer at the next meeting. Each group will review 1/3 of the course outlines before the meeting and make notes. Each course will be given 2 minutes for discussion and then when time is up a motion will be made or put the outline aside for further discussion later in the meeting. This is to help get through the large amount of course outlines that will be coming through in Fall. During this discussion a motion was made to have an extra meeting date of April 29th. A straw poll indicated that many of the voting members might not be able to attend an extra meeting. Six voted yes and one vote no. There may not be a quorum for this meeting. This motion was not completed. For next year it was discussed to have extra meeting dates or to extend the meeting time. An agreement was made that if more than 30 course outlines are on the agenda, the meeting time will be extended until 3:30. For the final May 6, 2009 meeting the time will be extended if there are more than 30 course outlines. Other ideas and information (non-motion items) brought out in this discussion were: Suggestion to use FLEX time to get through course outlines. Content Review team will be meeting in Summer. Coaches are needed, Nancy will be going on sabbatical. Voting members will receive a $100 stipend this semester only for their work on Curriculum Committee. Suggestion to use consent agenda style to get through large quantity of course outlines. Outlines would be read and corrections noted ahead of time. Courses without debate or question, could be voted upon and courses that need more discussion set aside. Courses should be voted on individually based on Stand Alone Training. To expedite processes, note typos and formatting and forward those to Margaret so they do not take up discussion time. 900 Course Instructions- At the March 18th Curriculum Committee meeting there was discussion to update the 900 Experimental Course Request Form. Based on the discussion from that meeting Janice revised instructions to the 900 form and the form itself based on input from this committee. Discussion today brought out concerns: The new form will be a block to innovative and creative new courses being written. The deadline for regular course outlines should be a priority and leave the experimental course request form updates as a future item. If updates to form Janice has prepared for committee to review today is not done now, the experimental course outline should remain the same for now but we give the college community notice it will be gone in one year. Good practice would be to update the form and instructions so all parts of a course outline are reflected on the experimental form to meet our Stand Alone Training requirements. The outcome of the discussion for changes to the 900 form and instructions was: A motion was made to add a section to the current 900 form that asks the Instructor(s) and/or Author to list the assessments. Distance Education Position Paper Laurie provided the committee copies of the Distance Education Position Paper. This is a revision from the 2004 paper. Discussion of the form resulted in the following suggestions: Clarify the Title 5 definition. Note who makes up the Distance Education Committee. Discussion on the terminology Hybrid and/or Partially Online were considered to be the same. The schedule of courses uses partially online and explains the term.
