(M/S;Goff.Subia) Unanimous RAP Proposal There was discussion to form a task group to consider both a potential model to develop a coaching process for the writing/re-writing of curriculum and to add a review structure to curriculum committee. Laurie Huffman, Richard Livingston, Nancy Ybarra and Julie Von Bergen volunteered for this task force. This task force will report back at next curriculum committee a model for action. Currently Nancy and Janice have been coaches. A Flex activity for faculty to assist training in the writing of COOR was suggested. Encourage the part-time faculty to attend this Flex. This would include one-on-one assistance after a general explanation of the four areas in the COOR. Suggestion to hold it in the Library computer lab and have faculty bring one or more outlines from their area to work on. Remind faculty of the current variable flex activity availability. Hours by Arrangement A task group will be formed to make recommendations to this committee for courses that have lab hours. Some possible choices are: Delete lab hours completely in some courses Schedule the lab hours Track student/instructor hours Utilize COOP education for the lab time Some departments such as ESL have already used bullet #3 to address this issue in their courses. Child Development is considering using COOP courses to fulfill the lab hours. Other departments such as Business, Computer Science, Math and Music and so on will need to make a decision on how to correct the lab hour for classes and be in compliance with the October legal advisory. Some course outlines will need to be revised. It was suggested to extend the catalog deadline for the minor changes and or revised COOR to January 14th. These corrections on the minor change form or rewritten COOR to be on the February 3rd Curriculum Agenda for action. The task force will be convened and report back to Curriculum their recommendations on a timeline and options for action. The Distance Education Committee will address the online lab hours at the next scheduled meeting, November17th. Richard will come to speak to this. General Education Process Ken Alexander, Chair of the GE Committee and Cindy McGrath spoke to committee on the General Education process. The 5 categories for expected GE student learning outcomes are evaluated for each general education course and recommended for approval and/or changes as the committee evaluates. The GE committee does recommend what placement in the general education curriculum the course will satisfy. General Education can be for all disciplines. Curriculum committee should reactivate both the Ethnic/Multicultural studies and the Ethical Inquiry committee as they have not been an active committee in recent years. In 2001 a General Education Curriculum Development packet was written on how to prepare a GE course at Ӱɴý. Since the writing of this packet the general education course level student learning outcomes have been imbedded into the outlines. The GE assessment criteria has been revised and housed on the curriculum committee webpage. The GE course evaluation rubric has also been revised and is housed on the GE Committee webpage.
