This is an existing 900 course which will end in SP06. Richard was in support of the Child Development request. Committee voted to add it to todays agenda. (M/S; Smith/Townsend) - Unanimous Minutes from 5/18/05: Approved with the following change: Change wording on Pg. 3 Students are guaranteed a place in CSU Programs (change from UC Programs) (M/S; Karp/Smith) Unanimous Consent Agenda: The consent agenda was approved as follows: CNT 11, 103, 104, 105, 106, 107, 108 Change disciplines to Computer Information Systems and Computer Science. Rationale: CNT is an Ӱɴý term only (Change to be effective Catalog 2006-2007) DRAMA 71L Change to DRAMA 71LS. Rationale: Course has been accepted for CSU General Education. (Change to be effective as catalog change in SU06 Per request from Eileen for articulation purposes.) RNURS 023, 027, 033, 038 Change mode of instruction to 1 hr lecture/2 hrs lab (one hour by arrangement, one hour scheduled). Rationale: Change accurately reflects how this course has always been taught. (Change to be effective Catalog 06/07). There was discussion about unit criteria and hours of instruction. Committee was urged to read the website which lists criteria for instruction. This should help to answer questions about what falls within these guidelines. Proposed New 900 Courses The following courses were approved with changes: MUSIC Beats for Rappers and Mo (SP06) Suggested changes: Check if degree applicable Remove course maximum (this is a UF issue) Require some form of a final exam or evaluative activity (M/S; Bolds/Townsend) Unanimous MUSIC Community Chorus (SP06) Suggested changes: Check total number of hours Require some form of a final exam of evaluative activity Use of new 900 form Tie objectives to grading (M/S; Karp/Smith) Unanimous Both courses were returned to Gil Rodriguez who will assist authors in making suggested changes. Authors should work with committee representatives. Due to scheduling deadline, courses do not need to come back through the committee. They should be returned to Gil who will forward them to Ken for approval. Ken will send a memo to faculty urging use of new forms and the support available to them from their Committee representatives. Ken will point out that the handbook and criteria for all Committee submissions are on the website. HMSRV Create2Change in Critical Literacy through Popular Media (SP06) Suggested changes: Include a final exam or activity Pg 2 SLO 2 heightened social agency. Make meaning of statement clearer. (It is the matter of validating the social condition that students enter with empowering individuals to be critical of society and their experiences). Course could be for general studies but definitely helpful to students in EOPS/Cal WORKS Programs. Perhaps change the name to Create2Change: Engaging in Critical Literacy through Popular Media Rework schedule description to make it more reader-friendly. Distinguish between Critical Literacy and Critical Thinking. This may help clarify and alleviate potential conflicts for students seeking to satisfy degree requirements. Suggest how to mitigate the course by rewriting schedule description to change to cultural from critical. Course is Credit/NonDegree There was discussion about the remediation level for this proposed course. Update from Shared Governance Council Update included the following: Productivity goals by the president Scheduling issues courses not successfully offered in prime time during Sp 2005 shouldnt be offered in the same slots again Encourage more instructors to teach 8:00 a.m. classes and consider 7:00 a.m. scheduling. Better analytical tools for enrollment management are needed. General Assembly on Sept. 19 discussion finance and enrollment No Smoking Policy is going well; new signs will be posted soon. Following past practice, should students in canceled classes have priority in other classes, even classes that are closed? This is a negotiable, U.F. contract issue regarding class maximums Articulation Update Eileen reported that Ӱɴý submitted 16 courses for UC transfer. We will know next month if they were accepted.
