Guest: Jill DeStefano Approval of todays Agenda and Minutes from March 21, 2007 Todays agenda was approved with a correction of #9 from discussion item to action item and #4 CHIN 30; 40; FRENCH 60; 61; ITAL 60 and 61 were withdrawn at the request of the department chair. They will be resubmitted for the May 2nd Agenda. (M/S;Smith.Moy) Unanimous Minutes from March 21, 2007 were approved with addition of Future agenda item of AP course discussion. (M/S;Townsend. Moy) Unanimous Proposed New 900 Courses COMSC 900 Computer Forensics was approved with friendly suggestion to re-write the schedule description, remove duplicate media in the CSLO bulleted list. Clayton provided a re-written schedule description but the committee requested that he solicit input from the computer science faculty. (M/S;Huffman.Moy) Unanimous Brentwood Curriculum Position On Wednesday, April 18, 2007, the Curriculum Committee voted to forward the following resolution to the Academic Senate to assist in the adoption and implementation of official policy: In general, we advocate a notion of "dual citizenship" for faculty currently based in the Brentwood facility or those who might choose to base themselves there in the future. Our intent in using this term is to assert that, in terms of curriculum, faculty neither gains nor loses any rights, but rather retains the right to propose, comment on and vote on curriculum. Implicit in this notion is faculty's obligation to collegiality and inclusiveness in matters of curriculum. Curriculum can be developed at either facility. Curriculum proposed at the main campus must be forwarded to Brentwood faculty for purposes of review and comment. Curriculum proposed at the Brentwood facility must be forwarded to main campus faculty for purposes of review and comment. In some manner, discretionary to the faculty of the discipline involved, a vote inclusive of full-time faculty at both sites is to be arranged and recorded. The signature of the main campus department chair on the COOR will indicate a majority of faculty in favor of the curriculum proposed. Curriculum that fails to win the support of a majority should not go forward. The Committee considered an alternate resolution put forward by the Brentwood faculty and presented by Jill DeStefano. Program Review Curriculum Responses Discussion The sub-committee met and prepared a Rubric. The sub-committee felt that using the Rubric method for Program Review Curriculum responses would provide perhaps too much information to instructional units at this time. The Committee will formulate an appropriate strategy and implementation plan to respond to departments with significant courses in need of updating. Janice and Myra will meet to formulate some ideas for the Committees review. Evaluation and Grading At the next meeting Myra, Ken and Nancy will bring back an example for review and discussion of a COOR form with changes to assessment/assignments and grading that could be helpful to professors writing or updating COORs. SGC Update Richard reported that funds have been allocated. Peter has forwarded a memo to the Ӱɴý community that outlines the allocations that will be available beginning July 1, 2007. Articulation Eileen reported that approval of additional General Education and IGETC courses has been reported and communicated to the campus community.
