This course has already been approved, so it does not need Curriculum Committee approval. Update from Shared Governance Council Don Kaiper, SGC Representative There are 3 priority discussion items in SGC are: Approval of the Educational Master Plan perhaps by mid-November. The SGC will serve as the Financial Planning Approval Group. This process will be undertaken only by voting members of the committee. There are nine voting members. Actual allocation will taken place in Spring. Tip groups will be available for help and to present workshops on Request Forms. Technical Advisory Group (TAG). Should this proposed committee be limited to an advisory role or should it be a policy formulation committee? Should it be a Shared Governance Committee? What is the definition of a shared governance committee? What should its membership be? There needs to be a discussion about this. Currently, the draft paper has been withdrawn until these issues are clarified. What does the Curriculum Committee think of the Educational Master Plan? If there are any questions, comments or points that need to be made, please direct them to Shannon Ramirez (only Curriculum Committee member with voting privileges on SGC), Don Kaiper, Richard Livingston or Delores McNair. After discussion of the Educational Master Plan, there was a consensus by the Curriculum Committee to support the plan. Program Review Richard Livingston There was discussion about Program Review. Title V legally requires Program Review. Richard distributed the Instructional Program Review and Unit Certification form, which was reviewed and discussed by the committee. The form will be sent out to all department chairs. Determine meeting dates for Spring Curriculum Committee Meetings Kiran Kamath There was discussion about perhaps keeping the spring meetings on Wednesdays but changing the time from 2:00 4:00 p.m. to 1:00 3:00 p.m. Marie Karp will check with Counseling as they have Wednesday meetings from 1:00 2:00. All other members can work with the proposed time change. Issue is on hold. Continue COOR Discussion Committee Kiran Kamath distributed the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges (ASCCC) paper Components of A Model Course Outline of Record to the committee to study as discussion on the COOR continues. Nancy Ybarra distributed the model District Policy New Curriculum and Course Procedure 4004 Course Pre-requisites, Co-requisites and Advisories on Recommended Preparation. The committee discussed levels of scrutiny, recency and other measurements of readiness in determining and approving pre-requisites or co-requisites. How do these issues relate in working with underprepared students, adult learners, the right to fail and the open door policy? We need further discussion of these issues. There was further discussion about criteria, implications and realities of pre and co-requisites and goal outcomes. This discussion will be revisited at a later date. Nancy Ybarra distributed a draft of Documented Content Review for Courses within a Sequence, which she prepared. Determine Agenda for November 5 Meeting Kiran Kamath The following items will be included in the agenda for the November 5 meeting. Course Outlines including: Continued discussion on our model COOR A summary page from Nancy Ybarra on determining the need for pre/co-requisites to be included in our model COOR Public Comments None.
