Stewart, Eileen Valenzuela, Nancy Ybarra Guests: Scott Cabral, Diana McDonald Announcements and Public Comments: Mark McGregor has stepped down from the Curriculum Committee. The Academic Senate has been requested to forward the name of a new representative from the Computer Field for a five semester term effective Spring 2005. In the interim, Clayton Smith will serve on the committee as Marks alternative. The Committee thanks Mark for his excellent contributions to the committee. The Academic Senate has requested a list of openings on the Curriculum Committee that need to be filled in Fall 2005. A rotation plan was developed by the Curriculum Committee during the last academic year. This plan was distributed again to the Committee and it shows open positions in the Computer Field, Liberal Arts A, Liberal Arts B, English, Online Committee and Curriculum Committee Chairperson for Fall 2005. This list will be forwarded to the Academic Senate. Kiran is working on the first draft of the Curriculum Handbook. This will be an agenda item on the March 16 meeting. Curriculum Committee should plan staff development for the college on the new forms either as a Monday meeting or as workshops. The Academic Senate has expressed concerns about the large volume of printing in November and December 2004 on its account. All Curriculum Committee documents will be copied on a 2 day turnaround, so your agenda packets will be in your mailbox on the Friday before each meeting. The Academic Senate had put the Curriculum Committee self-assessment as an agenda item on its February 28 meeting. They have been advised that the Curriculum Committee has not yet received a self-assessment form to do the self-assessment. This form was being developed by the Academic Senate in Spring 2004, but was not sent to the Curriculum Committee. Approve agenda and minutes: Agenda: Approved. Preliminary Discussion on Ӱɴý Credit for Advanced Placement Exams There was a preliminary discussion on the concept and process for granting Ӱɴý credit to students who pass AP exams successfully. Should the student be granted credit for the courses and the units be reflected on the Ӱɴý transcript? Should the equivalent course be waived at Ӱɴý to enable students to reach their educational goals faster? What do other community colleges do? How does it affect transfer? Is there a maximum number of AP units that Ӱɴý should give credit for? Ӱɴý already has several courses in the catalog that receive AP credit. Eileen Valenzuela and Marie Karp have volunteered to do more research on this and bring it back to the Curriculum Committee in April. The Curriculum Committee should email them additional questions or issues for consideration. The Curriculum Committee will do the initial research first, then present it to the Academic Senate for college and departmental discussion.
