Members are: Ken Alexander (new member), Don Kaiper, Cindy McGrath and Richard Livingston. Considered an Advisory Committee instead of a subcommittee. It was suggested that the Ӱɴý articulation officer should be a member of this group. On-Line thinks of themselves as an advisory group of 2 3 individuals. Laurie Huffman with chair this group as the liaison on the Curriculum Committee Ethnic Studies Advisory Board. Advise instructors on changes needed in course outlines. Assessment: It is a task force now. Not determined if it should be an Advisory Committee yet. All groups will have forms to be included in Curriculum Committee Handbook. GE already has forms, Online is developing a form. Ethnic Studies may develop a form. The difference between an advisory and a subcommittee. Advisory Committee should be considered a resource/support for success. A subcommittee would have the power to veto course outlines. Kiran urged members of the groups to e-mail her and let her know how they see themselves composition, scope and draft form. System to stagger first 2 year term of current members Don Kaiper, Myra Snell Myra developed proposed plans to stagger committee members. Don Kaiper motioned to accept Plan A 9 Yes 1 Abstention CURRICULUM COMMITTEE Minutes (DRAFT) September 17, 2003 Plan A Summary: After the phase in period, Occ Ed and Liberal Arts/Sciences have to elect one new rep each year but both will always have one experienced member on the committee. New Occ Ed reps in FA 04; one of new reps stays for three years to stagger Occ Ed terms, then all terms are 2 years. Four of ten current reps stay for three years then all terms are two years. Two new reps in FA 04; four new reps in FA 05 and four new reps in FA 06, from FA 07 pattern stabilizes to five new reps each fall. Plan A will be recommended to the Academic Senate. Curriculum Committee Website Kiran announced that the Curriculum Committee Website is now available. Group was asked to visit the website and e-mail Mark and Kiran with any suggestions or ideas. Discussion Topics and Goals The following were suggested as future discussion topics and goals: Program Review Review forms and develop models of each for workshops for Dept chairs. Learning outcomes on course outline. Pedagogy should be included for on-line and face-to-face courses. Discuss lab hours by arrangement Prerequisites, co requisites and student success UC/CSU articulation. Transfer courses. Information from Eileen. Review recommendations of the On-Line, GE and Ethnic Studies committees. Review and assess our GE Model (LS Courses). Who has this charge and where is this done. Mix of curriculum on campus per position paper. Advise percent GE/OccEd/Dev Ed to the Shared Governance Committee. Assessment Prioritizing was not completed.
