Agenda Approved Agenda Approved. 12-0-0. VI. Agenda Items Formation of Brentwood Division: There are concerns whether this division will follow the DVC San Ramon model in its entirety or parts. Curriculum and reporting relationship for online courses were some additional concerns. A request was made from the Math Department to increase the Academic Senate membership by one in order to have one at-large Brentwood representative. Though this division will happen, management still requests for the opinion of the Academic Senate. Some concerns included the additional representation of the math department. This division will force the teachers of the Brentwood campus to become colleagues and coworkers, forcing them to choose their own chair and hiring may force conflicts. Furthermore there were concerns about the equity of the representational structure of the senate for the Ӱɴý and Brentwood faculty for next fall; the structure of the Curriculum Committee is also something we should consider. The Constitution specifies the membership of the senate. However, alterations need to be made to the Constitution in order to accommodate the new division. Because making alterations to the Constitution is a fairly big undertaking a suggestion was made to not only make changes to accommodate the new division but to also make changes in other areas of the Constitution as well. Having each representative senate contain a relatively same amount of people is an example of other changes that can be made in the Constitution. A senator was concerned that the Counseling Department is not being represented in the senate. Another senator brought up the issue of the curricular issue of the English Department. A proposal was made to add a voting representative to the Curriculum Committee from the Brentwood division. Measure A in the upcoming ballot is giving the public the opportunity for a campus to be built on Marsh Creek. Moreover, there is a new high school campus in Brentwood, known as Heritage High School, as well as another high school currently in the works. It seems Brentwood is growing in a positive direction. Based on these facts a guest stated that we should allow the Ӱɴý Brentwood division, along with its surrounding community, to flourish. Motion to approve the formation of the Brentwood division. 8-2-2. Approved: Norris, Ochoa, McGrath, Davi, Austin, Lewis, Cabral, Sample. Opposed: Fracisco, Gottlieb. Abstain: Nash, Perfumo. Motion to approve one at-large representative for the Brentwood division. 7-3-2. Approved: Cabral, Austin, Lewis, McGrath, Norris, Ochoa. Opposed: Nash, Gottlieb, Fracisco. Abstain: Davi, Sample. Motions to approve one representative for the Curriculum Committee and address courses taught in Brentwood to follow course outline record with minor changes that dont require revision were tabled due to time constraint. Program Review Model: At the request of SGC the Planning Committee has revised the Program Review. The group has integrated the Program Review and Unit Planning into one dynamic, living document known as Instructional Program Review and Planning. This document in meant to generate the plans for action each department will take as well as the direction. At the time of accreditation this will help reform institutional study; this will help the Annual Unit Plan, which will help reform the Master Plan. Suggestions were made to condense and streamline the document as much as possible. Further discussion next senate meeting. Improving student goals and achievement: There is a plan to conduct surveys that measure our students assessment to our programs and the services we offer and the number of students who drive by Ӱɴý to attend DVC. A suggestion was made to focus on the end product result. This matter is not something for the senate to approve, SGC only requests for feedback. SGC evaluation surveys were distributed to senators.
