Agenda Items Consent Calendar: The senate has appointed Clayton Smith to the District-Wide Technology Committee. Formation of Brentwood Division: There has been internal dissention in the math department for a number of years. Therefore, a new division has been created. The new division will be considered a nondepartmentalized faculty group (NDFG). This may also occur in other departments. The division will come into affect in Fall 2006. Furthermore, the inability to hire is another reason for the pending division. There are many questions concerning this matter. What are the circumstances of this division? What input would faculty have in the design of curriculum of which they are no longer attached to? A similar division of departments has occurred at DVC with the San Ramon campus. Do we follow their model? Or can we follow segments of their model? Will this group apply to Box 2A separately? Will there be different management for each division? How will the split affect the different departments? How will this affect the students? There were also concerns about the Brentwood division. There may be competition for the same part-time faculty. Additionally, the division may affect Ӱɴýs collegiality. A suggestion was made to form a proposal to have other faculty review and pinpoint any problems. Any additional concerns should be brought to the next senate meeting. Learning Communities: There will be an informal retreat orientation meeting for faculty interested in learning communities. Each department is asked the following questions: Should the orientation be one or two day flex training? Is it best to offer the orientation in July or August? Those who attend the orientation will be paid by staff development. Community College Ballot Measure: With this measure Ӱɴý will receive greater funding and limit student fee increases. The senate has agreed to endorse this measure. 60% Limit For Part-Time Faculty: The current bill in the State Legislature that says part-time faculty are permitted to work 60% of a full load. The State Legislature proposes to increase the limit to 80 percent. Senate supports the limit increase. 12-1-0. Resolution to State Senate: Some courses require textbook text and others require online text. Current law states that online text cannot be considered as the mandatory text for the course. A resolution has been made that states individual faculty should have the freedom to decide which is the best text for their course. VII.
