Austin, Baskin, Bolds, Caldwell, Jones, and Nunez were all confirmed. Campus Change Network presentation by Laura Subia and Rosa Armendariz: The first year of the Campus Change Network they invited seven colleges to engage in this program. This is their second year and they have invited us to be a part of it and Ӱɴý applied. The proposal based on the 2004 Equity Plan was accepted. The program uses resources and data in order to start making changes for equity. The Campus Change Network is looking for a core leadership team. The Ӱɴý population did not reflect Latino population in the community. African American students retention and success was identified as an area for improvement and the Campus Change Network Ӱɴý leadership want to create a program to address this need. The third focus is professional development. The Ӱɴý Mosaic program will try to create conversation for improvement. Faculty representatives are needed. There will be a retreat on September18th through the 20th in Sonoma. Participants include a faculty representatives appointed by the Academic Senate, a student representative, and student services, who will become the executive team. A working or advisory group with other representatives will focus on certain areas and a way to extend the conversation to more people. Four faculty have volunteered for two faculty appointments: one for the executive team and one faculty to serve on the working/advisory team. HSI will cover some of the expenses. California tomorrow (CCN) will cover most of the expenses. The senate decided to appoint the two individuals with the highest votes from the senate. The two people with the highest votes were Joellen Hiltbrand with nine votes and Frances Moy with seven votes. Erlinda Jones received six votes, and Jeannine Stein received five votes. Course repetition pilot policy in biology: The current policy for repeating classes states that if the student has a substandard grade and wants to repeat that class for the first time, he or she must apply for academic renewal. The second time the student repeats that same class with a substandard grade; he or she must have an appointment with a counselor. The w is currently not included as a substandard grade. The new policy would include the w as a substandard grade for biology 40, 45, and 50. The reason for the policy change for those specific classes is the very large number of students trying to go through those classes to get into the medical field. Many students take advantage of the repeatability by taking ws right before the drop deadline and then repeating the class semester after semester. There are students (approx. 50) that have done this six or seven times. The concern is fairness to the students that are new to the courses, because the new students tend to have less priority on the registration system than the students that have been at the college for a longer period of time. Concerns about fairness in application of the w as an unsatisfactory grade in applying this policy for these three classes and campus-wide. The policy can be translated into other departments in the future. There are not enough rooms to create more biology classes. Biology equipment is expensive, and many personnel are required to run a biology class. Concerns about research conducted with the diversity of the students that are continually dropping and re-taking these courses. A motion was made to request college data about students that withdraw from classes excessively. An amendment to the motion to request information only from the biology department regarding ethnicity of students passes 8-5. The biology department is requested to present the data at a subsequent senate meeting. The original motion to include ws as a substandard grade in regards to repeatability was rejected 4-8. Training for accreditation: Ӱɴý is in the planning stages for the 2007-2008 accreditations. There is a district wide training session, which is a new element of accreditation. Faculty appointees are needed to take part in the training. Representatives are needed from instruction, student services, the academic senate, and the curriculum committee. The goal is to have a diverse group. The people that attend the training will become a resource for the campus and for other leaders that do accreditation work. The training will be held on September 19th. Selections will be made at the next senate meeting. VII.
