CSU East Bay proposal to offer lower division courses also discussed. FSCC: (Faculty Senates Coordinating Council) Will meet with UF to discuss joint topics such as evaluations. Faculty input requested. Grade roster checking: Faculty are requested to voluntarily check rosters for three years. No one will be hired to check rosters Will check about allowing some faculty into admissions for rosters SGC (Shared Governance Council) Tag is working on the Technology Plan. Tutoring draft proposal will be disseminated soon. ASӰɴý is still trying to increase involvement from students Transfer AA degree: State is forcing a change in all institutions including Ӱɴý which offer transfer AA degrees to students. State requires an AA with an emphasis such as Liberal Arts: Arts & Humanities not just general transfer requirements Ӱɴý awarded 75 Transfer AA degrees in 2007 Current plan is to let non-compliant transfer AA be deleted by July 2008 Liberal Arts emphases will continue: Arts & Humanities, Math & Science, and Behavioral & Social Sciences Suggestion: Interdisciplinary major for AA degree. Suggestion: add additional common transfer requirements to major listings of Liberal Arts emphasis (e.g. Speech is not listed among these major requirements) Counselors concerned that many students will opt not to get AA degree and transfer without a degree Clarification of police aide functions: police aide supposed to call police officer for assistance not break up fights on campus RAP (Resource Allocation Process) email coming from Peter Garcia. Changes to RAP include a larger role for management in development and evaluation of proposals. Instead of Block Grant proposals, now will have Program Maintenance (e.g. replacing equipment). Forms for RAP have been made more user-friendly and are due by 1/30/08 VTEA changes: VTEA proposals now submitted to Occ. Ed Committee Submitted Senate suggestions for Opening Day Curriculum Committee: Looking at balancing assessment requirements in COORs professional but not ridiculously difficult The committee is aware of the impact on faculty with changing target deadlines Demo at district office of Curricunet software Locally Approved Certificates: must be given new name. Now known as Ӱɴý Skills Certificates GE (General Education) Committee Held open forum for GE dedicated to accreditation and assessment topics: moving to a mandatory model of assessment within GE courses. Approximately 10-11 faculty and some managers attended and participated in a lively discussion. More discussion to follow at upcoming GE meetings. Both GE Committee & TLP (Teaching and Learning Project) voted unanimously to proceed with mandatory model for GE. GE Model was discussed at Academic Senate in September 2007 and the next steps for assessment was passed by the Senate in Fall 2006, delegating authority to GE, DE (Developmental Education), Occ. Ed, SSAC (Student Services Advisory Committee), and Library & Learning Support Committees. Other groups are considering GE Model for constituent groups. Concerns: model presented in College Assembly as policy, but GE Committee wasnt designated as a committee that could make sweeping policy for faculty. Some faculty requested additional discussion of major policy changes, even if authority was delegated to GE, other committees. Additional communication of major changes requested by some faculty. Synopsis of elections: Deadline for ballots: Oct 19 At the deadline, it looked like there was a tie between Erich Holtmann and Estelle Davi, the two candidates for the Liberal Arts At Large position Senate President decided to extend voting in order to break the tie. There is no provision in bylaws for a tied election. Past practice had been to extend election. Concerns: Some passwords used multiple times (no way to tell if multiple people used same password to vote, one person voted multiple times or retried to send one vote) Communication regarding passwords could have been clearer No master list of passwords was maintained Email for extended elections referenced a minimum of votes, but no minimum for voting is required Some faculty disposed of password information into scratch paper bins Faculty didnt understand how electronic voting worked Upcoming Elections: Will combine upcoming Vice President and new Senate Liberal Arts & Sciences At Large election on paper only ballots Revise bylaws to include procedures and provisions for election tie and operations policies for senate elections7Hayward AwardLaurie Huffman nominated by Cindy McGrath. Laurie Huffman approved as Hayward Award nominee (11-0-2)8Academic Senate position on Proposition 92State Academic Senate has taken a position supporting Proposition 92. Jeffrey Michels has requested our Academic Senate to consider endorsing Prop. 92 similarly. Discussion of pros and cons of funding allocations at the State Government level and Proposition 98 funding requirements, and Proposition 92 changes to funding recommendations.
