Additional questions about combination classes (e.g. Welding courses, Math 1/7). Would it be possible to have the signed graded rosters provided to instructors for double checking grades? Senate president will follow up with Admissions. Questions raised about how long instructors are required to keep grades: 1 year requirement for student grade grievances. Some instructors have been told to retain grade records 3 years, while others told 1 year. 3Senate Announcements & ReportsDGC: (District Governance Council) Meets tomorrow and will discuss Key Goals and Budget Priorities. FSCC: (Faculty Senates Coordinating Council) Has not met since last senate meeting. Most recent meeting cancelled due to CCC Confer unavailability. SGC (Shared Governance Council) College web page: students brought a number of requests for improving College web page. Student requests mirrored Clarus findings. Improving Ӱɴý webpage noted as a priority by Peter. Departments may be asked for additional content for the webpage in the future. Some departments are having to buy Contribute software for department webpage while others are able to submit content directly to webmistress. Opening Day: Peter would like input from the Senate. What would be a successful Opening Day? Should fall/spring Opening Days be similar? Faculty suggestions from the Senate: Positive tone set by President: positive, upbeat, motivating, more like a pep rally rather than scolding from administration Successful Opening Day: faculty would feel like attending was worth it (not a waste of time) A time set aside for faculty to talk about major issues like the Senate time in previous years to make Senate more relevant Some topic appropriate to all faculty Ӱɴý faculty/student presentations from past years were memorable Curriculum Committee: Considering the possibility of getting laptops to use at meetings (to use electronic copies instead of hard copies of materials). Would like a future presentation on Curicunet software for course forms. This would allow for e-signatures instead of physical signatures. New Business degree upcoming: will hopefully increase enrollment in business/math courses Policy for closed sections (special populations e.g. Honors, Puente students only): now request an additional section open to general population Request that electronic forms be available district-widedistrict faculty able to view Course Outlines from all colleges in the district. Some colleges have COORs accessible to general public also. Transfer AA degree discussion at next meeting: AA degree discussions Any AA changes must be approved by the Senate Discussion/clarification of Curriculum Committee & Senate relationship & functions would be helpful Tutoring Committee HSI will make recommendations directly to SGC. Currently formulating goals and increasing student access. HSI money may be used to better services that impact all students. A possibility of a triage center for tutoring referrals with subject-specific and generalized tutoring available in one location. The Reading & Writing Center also offers online tutoring. Senate would like regular reports from Tutoring Committee. Online Committee New online handbook will be ready for next fall.4, 5Approval of previous minutes and agendaMinutes & agenda approved without corrections. Request to add Senate elections to the agenda today. Senate elections are agendized for the next Senate meeting and the item was not an emergency item under Brown Act rules.6Key Goals and Budget Priorities7Common Ground PresentationPresentation deferred at this time8CSUEB Board Presentation ResultsOfficial copies of the CSUEB proposal were handed out. The Governing Board asked questions but didnt agendize the issue in December. The Board is awaiting additional data from CSUEB. 9CAHSEE (High School Exit Exam) The Ӱɴý Academic Senate supports the State Academic Senates concern that the CAHSEE is the sole measure for being granted a high school diploma. No multiple measures are in place for high school students to earn a diploma.
