Upcoming meetings topics include: finalizing COORs (Course Outline Of Record) (for spring 2008, grading evaluation section phased in and will include instructions and criteria) AP (Advanced Placement) examination credit other institutions accept more AP exams for course credit than Ӱɴý Curriculum Committee website has current information Curriculum Committee empathizes with faculty frustration and is working to end alienation and frustration with the final COORs model. GE (General Education) Committee Ken Alexander is the new GE Committee Chair GE Committee is beginning implementation of the GE assessment model for all faculty who teach GE courses. Monday February 4 is a mandatory training for GE instructors Upcoming conference in Berkeley has 13 Ӱɴý faculty attending SGC (Shared Governance Council) Annual Process Calendar is being developed hopefully by fall 2008. Will include monthly updates Compressed calendar at DVC delayed CSU East Bay lower division courses proposal will likely not be recommended by the Board of Trustees. A requirement to approve the proposal from CSUEB would be no impact on the District. Budget for 08-09 looks down by several million. Ӱɴý FTEs are currently 9% higher (we may end the semester up 6% depending on retention) Students reported on the large number of semester kick-off events 40 Ӱɴý students will be attending the UC Berkeley Leadership Conference. Middle College for Bay Point students is still in development and likely moving forward, but waiting for grant funding. Mt. Diablo School District would give oversight and a dedicated space is needed Executive Summary of Clarus report is available from Christine Fithian. Complete Clarus report not yet available. Suggestion from faculty: instead of starting from scratch with faculty to get ideas for branding, couldnt some information about Ӱɴý successes be used from Clarus report? RAP (Resource Allocation Process) has upcoming deadlines: 1/28 for maintenance of effort requests, 2/20 for proposals more like the old Financial Planning Model requests FSCC (Faculty Senate Coordinating Council) Looking at spring semester tasks District Enrollment Management: will ask Ӱɴý Enrollment Management faculty reps if they would like to participate. If more faculty reps are needed, will send out a call to all faculty Question: why district enrollment management committee needed? Some enrollment issues impact all 3 colleges such as enrollment periods and Webadvisor shut downs. Not expecting a district enrollment policy due to college by college differences or marketing. Joint meeting with United Faculty later this semester DGC (District Governance Council) Budget proactive suggestions later in the agenda Tutoring Committee Drop in tutoring pilot to open later in spring. Interdisciplinary tutoring and triage (referral to other campus tutoring) will be included. Question from faculty: will there be a tutoring center at Brentwood Center? Other Updates You may have seen a recent email from Richard Livingston regarding cheating. Faculty are no longer allowed to fail a student for the entire course for cheating on one exam/assignment. At a future Senate meeting, well revisit the Academic Dishonest Policy to include the current legal opinion.4, 5Approval of previous minutes Agenda reading and approvalCorrection: Move Faculty may attend only one day of the conference also from the Richard Paul presentation to the Dr. Linda Elder presentation. Minutes approved with correction (12-0-0). Agenda approved (12-0-0)6CSU East BayIt looks very likely that the District will not approve the proposal. California Community Colleges System Office does not support the CSUEB proposal. The District would have to certify that lower division courses at CSUEB would have no impact on the District, which doesnt seem likely. District office is also waiting on addition information from CSUEB. 7Senate Election Process DraftThank you to Alex Sample, Estelle Davi & Clint Ryan for their work on the Senate Election Procedures draft. Erich Holtmann replaces Akilah Moore as the Math Dept Rep and Estelle Davi would then be the sole candidate for Liberal Arts & Sciences At Large Rep. Computer and/or electronic voting was considered, but security and/or confidentiality issues could not be resolved at this time. Upcoming Student Trustee election might provide a mechanism for future electronic voting Topics covered include procedures for candidate statement submission, numbered ballots (like UF ballots), verification of election results. Feedback for deciding a tie election needed. One suggestion was a coin toss. Suggestions are welcome. The Voting Procedures will be a future action item. New Senate Election Procedures will be used in the upcoming Senate Vice President election. Clint Ryan will be a candidate. A call for other faculty nominations will go out soon.8Budget Proactive SuggestionDeferred at this time9Compressed CalendarCompressed Calendar implementation at DVC will not happen until fall 2009 We (Ӱɴý faculty) have spring 2008 semester to decide how wed like to proceed. We as a faculty need to decide if one campus can go forward with compressed calendar if other campuses opt for the current calendar Faculty requested additional data and explanation of compressed calendar/block scheduling definitions No implementation plan has been presented for DVCs compressed calendar implementation DVC is planning to move forward with block scheduling (scheduling courses so that the class meets longer than 60 minutes at a time: MW 9-10:20 or Th 6-8:50) Brentwood Center and some departments are operating on a block schedule already Compressed calendar/block scheduling also impacts Classified Staffing and Student Service Programs by shortening timelines during rush periods and could require offices to be open longer hours, and additional budget needs to meet expanded hours Suggestion: invite Susan Lamb from DVC to speak at Ӱɴý Senate Feedback from faculty: new early morning sections and Saturday sections have had low enrollments and many students are not able to get to class on time Question: what would the impact on the faculty contract be from a compressed calendar schedule? Could impact days faculty are expected to teach (including Saturdays) or extended hours in Student Service faculty Scheduling courses on the F/Sat pattern would need to include enough courses for students to complete their degree Discussion will continue10Code of ConductConcerns at DGC about process of getting feedback from constituent groups. Previously approved Code of Conduct is still in force. Student may be removed from class for one day and the next class. When you remove someone from class, please speak with Art Alatorre11Shared Governance Catalog StatementCCC and DVC have shared governance statements in their respective catalogs. Senators felt that any SGC statement should come from SGC itself. Requested that SGC reps take the issue back to SGC Shared governance is not a union purview. Some felt that documenting shared governance in the catalog is protecting faculty rights A draft of a shared governance statement could be sent to SGC if requested12Evaluation Form FeedbackErich Holtmann provided a handout of feedback from the Math Department for peer evaluations Evaluation of faculty has to be measurable and cut and dry One Senate goal is faculty development. Some groups on campus have developed teacher training programs Senate and UF might have different views on changes faculty would like for evaluation Some felt the suggestions from the handout provided were too subjective More information about evaluation forms will be coming later in the semester from joint Senate/UF meeting Conversation will continue13Diversity AwardAt this time, no response from facultyAdjournment %&')+,.;<=@EFGOP 2 3 E F G H ~vk`kvUvh _hDOJQJh _h _OJQJh _hc}$OJQJh OJQJhih _5CJOJQJaJhihc}$5CJOJQJaJh^'h7OJQJh8OJQJhlLOJQJh^'OJQJhc}$OJQJhE5OJQJhtr5OJQJhlL5OJQJhHd5OJQJhYf&5OJQJhc}$5OJQJ!%FGP Wkd$$IflF0* t0*6 44 laytAq $Ifgdc}$gdc}$ $@&a$gd{j ( $ 3 F G I j k \S $Ifgd kd{$$IflF0* t0*6 44 laytAq $Ifgd7 $Ifgdc}$ H I i j k ` b J K "-R9ijvnfnfnvnhHvOJQJhKa\[ LaMa NaOaKPa|`QalnRa\nSa$UTaUaaVa$Wa߲Xalnnrw??FG G Q qvzzEMMP W W 8*urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttagsCity=*urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags PlaceName=*urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags PlaceType9*urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttagsplace Ebd$[a " i s 18P jm 3333`b bd u>59^cg,jsCA*YGԗX?NRV`-`x5rLhhh^h`OJQJo(hHh88^8`OJQJ^Jo(hHoh^`OJQJo(hHh ^ `OJQJo(hHh ^ `OJQJ^Jo(hHohxx^x`OJQJo(hHhHH^H`OJQJo(hHh^`OJQJ^Jo(hHoh^`OJQJo(hHhhh^h`OJQJo(hHh88^8`OJQJ^Jo(hHoh^`OJQJo(hHh ^ `OJQJo(hHh ^ `OJQJ^Jo(hHohxx^x`OJQJo(hHhHH^H`OJQJo(hHh^`OJQJ^Jo(hHoh^`OJQJo(hHhhh^h`OJQJo(hHh88^8`OJQJ^Jo(hHoh^`OJQJo(hHh ^ `OJQJo(hHh ^ `OJQJ^Jo(hHohxx^x`OJQJo(hHhHH^H`OJQJo(hHh^`OJQJ^Jo(hHoh^`OJQJo(hHhhh^h`OJQJo(hHh88^8`OJQJ^Jo(hHoh^`OJQJo(hHh ^ `OJQJo(hHh ^ `OJQJ^Jo(hHohxx^x`OJQJo(hHhHH^H`OJQJo(hHh^`OJQJ^Jo(hHoh^`OJQJo(hHhhh^h`OJQJo(hHh88^8`OJQJ^Jo(hHoh^`OJQJo(hHh ^ `OJQJo(hHh ^ `OJQJ^Jo(hHohxx^x`OJQJo(hHhHH^H`OJQJo(hHh^`OJQJ^Jo(hHoh^`OJQJo(hHhhh^h`OJQJo(hHh88^8`OJQJ^Jo(hHoh^`OJQJo(hHh ^ `OJQJo(hHh ^ `OJQJ^Jo(hHohxx^x`OJQJo(hHhHH^H`OJQJo(hHh^`OJQJ^Jo(hHoh^`OJQJo(hHhhh^h`OJQJo(hHh88^8`OJQJ^Jo(hHoh^`OJQJo(hHh ^ `OJQJo(hHh ^ `OJQJ^Jo(hHohxx^x`OJQJo(hHhHH^H`OJQJo(hHh^`OJQJ^Jo(hHoh^`OJQJo(hHhhh^h`OJQJo(hHh88^8`OJQJ^Jo(hHoh^`OJQJo(hHh ^ `OJQJo(hHh ^ `OJQJ^Jo(hHohxx^x`OJQJo(hHhHH^H`OJQJo(hHh^`OJQJ^Jo(hHoh^`OJQJo(hH*YGu>g,`-`sC?N5r9 7W9:u@CP|; T P k }"C9#.hKG 7^/R(++#8# A#c}$/&T&Yf&^' U'Ly?6y@BD)EMDM`NrNOsP=yQ?SezS}U V,VRVXJ X X*X."Y:YEY"o [M){rc H[T;v,Gw}`yJ ^I/z~W}&<Z+'E[]fn7O{\Cjal,+q/B}N4+Gdm.=S3FGIk !#A568LDEHXcdg 9^ _ b r @ bbIbb P@UnknownGz Times New Roman5Symbol3& z ArialCLucida BrightE& Century Gothic5& zaTahoma;Wingdings?5 z Courier New"qhq2fff;;Y24 2QHX)?E2 ACADEMIC SENATE MEETING SUMMARY Information TechnologyInformation Technology, Oh+'0$ DP p | $ACADEMIC SENATE MEETING SUMMARY Information Technology Normal.dotInformation Technology21Microsoft Office Word@bZ@ H^@h@~R9t՜.+,0 hp Ӱɴý; !ACADEMIC SENATE MEETING SUMMARY Title !"#$%&'()+,-./013456789:;<=>?@ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPRSTUVWXZ[\]^_`cRoot Entry FsSLteData *1Table2=WordDocument4RSummaryInformation(QDocumentSummaryInformation8YCompObjq FMicrosoft Office Word Document MSWordDocWord.Document.89q
