New student life faculty hire is scheduled to teach leadership courses (i.e. human services course previously existing). Minutes Approved Addition requested to State Senate Plenary session recommendations regarding the English composition/creative writing discussion. 12-0-0. Agenda Reading and Approval: Agenda additions requested: Basic Skills Initiative which includes the increase in AA requirements to improve basic skills instruction. Ӱɴý received $300,000 from the Basic Skills Initiative. Much of the money received is to be allocated to staff development. Basic Skills Committee faculty members needed quickly. Time urgency: may conferences and committee to meet soon. Interested faculty: Myra Snell, Nancy Ybarra, Phil Gottlieb. Relation of curriculum, department, and non-departmentalized faculty groups: Handouts: #1 based on Curriculum Committee recommendation. #1a modified to include feedback from Jeffrey Michaels of UF. #2 based on feedback from Brentwood NDFG. Additional handouts from Brentwood NDFG: blue 1a and green 2a plus yellow timeline and purple proposed change to COOR. Yellow timeline includes discussions at Curriculum Committee regarding relation of curriculum, department and NDFG. Purple handout: new COOR proposed includes spaces for additional signature. Motion 3: 3a recommending to union via IBB a long-term solution (at least 6 months required). Motion 1 or 2 can be passed by senate at this time. Purpose of yellow timeline: Brentwood NDFG feels that Curriculum Committee didnt follow the brown act, so recommendation 1 was based on illegal process. Concern that accepting a recommendation based on out of compliance brown act discussion as a senate position would be inappropriate. Curriculum Committee is a subcommittee of senate and is also subject to the Brown Act. A resolution to Brown Act violation is a cure and correct. Disagreement regarding whether a cure and correct occurred on 4/18 in the Curriculum Committee. Recommend a consult with legal counsel (Brown Act presenter from earlier today) to determine if appropriate cure and correct has already occurred. Please discuss submitted motions with your department or NDFG and remember Motion 3 is a long-term solution and interests if we would like to go there.
