Absent- Pam Perfumo, Jeff Frates, Andy Ochoa. Guests- Kiran Kamath, Virginia Buttermore, Marie Karp, Barry Goldstein, Kurt Crowder, Richard Livingston. Public Comment 1. Folino- “Tesla show is the weekend of March 19th” Announcements Norris stated that Baskin, Frates and Nash SGC representatives for Spring 2005 term. Proposed plagiarism policy update- (Yamakoshi). Yamakoshi advised the proposed plagiarism policy update went out to all of out faculty. The proposal will be Curriculum Committee and to all of the other campuses. Senate Budget- (Yamakoshi). Norris will reschedule the meeting that will include Yamakoshi, Norris, Cutler, and Livingston, regarding the lack of a Senate Treasure. We are still trying to get the money from the district. Norris has been receiving and depositing the $14.00 checks that we receive every month from voluntary deductions into the Senate account. Budget update will be available in the near future. Awards for the State- (Yamakoshi). Yamakoshi announced that McGrath paperwork has been forwarded to the State. We do not have a diversity award candidate. ASCCC- (Yamakoshi). The ASCCC on April 7th -9th. Norris and Lewis as possible attendees. Yamakoshi will email Garcia about and request a first meeting and then report back to senate. Minimum qualifications sent to all departments and Curriculum Committee. Nursing department has responded and does not like some of the changes and has tried to stop them. Need to let representative know if yes or no before April 7. Minutes approved No minutes to approve Agenda approved Add emergency review of Engineering Program to Discussion Item. Motion passes 11-0-0 Reports: 1. SGC (Baskin)- Garcia says we will have money left over so they will spend judiciously, but there maybe some carryover, senate previously voted to spend it all. Extra would go back to District for long-term health of District. One question is whether it would include the academic senate carryover. Norris advised that it is senate’s decision to spend down or not. Lewis concerned that the carryover amount will be pocketed and not used toward negotiations. Nash stated that the money shows up in the general fund balance. Senate decided to tell Garcia and Cutler to do what ever is best for the institution. Corlew suggested that senate use the money to help students. Yamakoshi said the money could be used to fund another summer class or something else that directly benefits students. Full time faculty hires still going forward, but the start date is not until after July 1st. SGC would like to see wireless network be available to students and need TAG and IT to clarify if its possible. It is believed that although it would be free to the college, it would not be free to those who use the service. Most of Senate agreed that wireless network is a good idea if we can find a way to make it at low or no cost to the students. Curriculum Committee (Kamath). The first meeting will be on February 2nd. Transfer update- (Karp). Karp passed the official transfer statistics document. We are on a positive trend but still need to improve. The students that are interested in the colleges that we have the TAA (transfer admission agreements) with should come in now and apply for admission for next January. UC Davis is the most popular school that offers the TAA. The transfer reception will be Wednesday May 11th from 1-3 p.m. Karp requested that we take a look at the etransfer website. We have transfer fast track and other programs available. Senate would like to see profiles on the top 10 schools. We will be mandated to change our course numbering. We will have more on the renumbering of courses at a later date. Action Items/Discussion Items: Lewis moves, Baskin 2nd to appoint Phil Gottlieb to Occupational Ed Senate; Myra Snell to Planning Committee; Thais Kishi to Student Services Advisory Committee. Motions Pass 11-0-1 (Cabral abstains). Senate Election Committee- (Yamakoshi). Yamakoshi stated we need an election committee to find a Senate President; Curriculum Committee Chair, Senate secretary, Liberal Arts Senate representative and 2 part-time Senate representatives. It was suggested that instead of having a committee, that each senate member go to their departments and ask people to fill these positions. Norris will send another flier out to all full-time and part-time faculty members advising what positions are available and the length of the term. Proposal from Engineering- (Yamakoshi/Crowder). Senate asked Crowder if there would be an AA degree in the Engineering departments new program and if so what would be the courses in it. Crowder replied yes there will be a AA degree and the courses math courses calculus 1-3 differential equations, chemistry 25ls 26, 40, 41 and 42 engineering 48 and 36, 46? Either engineering 20 or 21 you don’t have to take both. The students that are working towards an AA degree in Engineering will also have to take other courses. Some Senate members do not understand why we are designing a AA path when most Engineering majors transfer. New program Liberal Arts Math and Science and there is some concern with possible over lapping of the two area’s of the GE requirements. Norris requested a list of the courses required for an AA in Engineering. Final vote will be at the February 14th meeting. Work to contract issues for Senate -(Yamakoshi). Yamakoshi advised she made a ballot based on the last decision to be apart of the voting process. Yamakoshi will pass out the ballot to 1 representative per department and that ballot will represent each person’s vote in the department and then the results will be given to Barry Goldstein. Bring back the ballots on February 14th. Goldstein feels that this should be an Academic Senate discussion and he does not feel that the union should lead it. Senate requested that the Teacher and Learning project (previously known as assessment), online committee, and holding of class max be added to ballot. Norris suggested not doing anything at this time. Sample suggested standardizing how votes are done on the ballots. It was suggested that there place to vote that we do not recommend anything. Senate does not want any voting on these until the last best offer has been brought forward. Possible next agenda items for February 14th: FSCC Engineering program proposal- final vote Work to contract issues for Senate -Vł‡Żľhu ł Ä % šœDFŢŕ!CXZ ůš‰‹•–EoqsĆřóóóóóńńíóńńńćíáííńßóŘó
