College Administration: Greg Stoup District Strategic Planning Vision for Success document: Mandate from State Chancellors Office; 18 months old document. District and colleges need to align with Vision for Success 6 goals extensively; 4 goals were presented (5 applicable to colleges) Completion Increase total degrees by 20% (AS/AA/ADT) and increase total certificates by 20%. Transfer Increase by at least 35% the number of CCC students system-wide transferring annually to a UC or CSU. Unit Accumulation Decrease the average number of units accumulated by CCC students earning associate degrees, from approximately 87 total units to 79 total units; a decrease of 9% (only AA and AS, not ADTs). Job in their Discipline Increase all students with job closely related to their field of study. Percent of existing CTE students employed in their field of study. Target of 76%. Apply Equity Lense Choose among the 14 mandatory student sub-populations around ethnicity, gender, foster youth, age, veterans and pick targets for those population in the goal definition, however there are no data available; no definition of what Equity is. Need to know how to measure the gaps. Currently there is no existing penalty for not achieving the goals, however there will be a list shown which colleges did not meet their goals. As the District is planning the Strategic Plan, to think about focusing on what were being measured for and District should lead us per plan. College Administration: Chialin Hsieh Evaluation of Current Strategic Plan 2014-2019 C. Hsieh shared the timeline and progress for this semester Strategic Plan 2014-2019 and requested feedback from the group. N. Ybarra shared steps taken of closing out 2015-2019 plan and similar steps for the next 5 year plan. Will be featured in the next College Assembly; an opportunity for folks to share stories from 2014-2019 plan; bring examples of stories related to objectives; successful stories or ideas we havent touched base on. Bring both things that were successful and unsuccessful. Another example, SGCs recollection of what theyve accomplished for the last 5 years based on their charge (Goal #3). C. Hsieh navigated through website and shared each step to take. The group decided to do it as Senate body and individual as an add-on (per Chialin); both are welcome.6.Consent Calendar (J. Bearden): VP Student Services: Paper Screening Jen Saito VP Student Services: Interview: Faith Watkins, Rudolph Rose and Richard Villegas It was asked how Senate Council came up with the above names instead of putting a call out for faculty participation, it was suggested to send a call out for all faculty participation and that history shows that management does things last minute; no time to do a call out. Faculty involvement in Learning Communities were assessed, came up with above names and negotiations had to be done quickly with management. Senate Council requested from Bob to give the Senate ample time to do a call out especially for the two positions coming up; V.P. of Instruction and V.P. of Business Services. As soon as Bob receives info, he will inform Senate Council. It was suggested that as soon as a position is known to be posted, send the call out to give time for all to respond and go through the process. Motion to approve above names for Paper and Interview Screening for V.P. Student Services. - Approved (M/S; M. Lewis/C. McGrath) 12 Votes, 2 Abstained and 0 Opposed7.Second Reading Joining OEI Consortium Revised Resolutions - (L. Huffman/J. Miller): L. McGrath, D. Reyes, J. Townsend, J. Von Bergen & J. Bearden): GE Resolution I C. McGrath shared history of ideas to do revisions; GE model, transfers, embedded SLOs within a course, official Ӱɴý GE Course, new updates and how to handle challenges within GE by one example shared; taking the 5 student learning outcomes and meeting with faculty who are discipline expert within each of the boxes where their courses fall; not by department and meet with those faculty to see which SLOs are the most challenging for them and together work with them 3 of 5 they would focus on and GE will assure all 5 are covered in model. C. McGrath gave other examples of changing GE model, universal GE program, autonomy and freedom to choose SLOs to meet within a course. D. Reyes gave examples of activity drafts in different categories using similar SLOs such as critical reading, ethically implications, etc. Discussions were around Area C & D courses, being more inclusive with the boxes, equity question vs. equality, hardest to teach is diverse social multi-cultural global perspective and they want more professional development (the first thing they will dump) and concern of potentially losing the equity portion, do not change whats working, counseling recommendations, more autonomy & how many people are interested doing this? S. Goldfarb shared nursing students meeting GE requirements and doing the program and irrelevant courses their taking; please find a solution. GE Resolution II J. Townsend shared the resolution to benefit those students especially in nursing department and explained GE courses. 8.First Reading: GE Resolution I, GE Resolution II & Parking Regulation (C. McGrath, D. Reyes, J. Townsend, J. Von Bergen & J. Bearden): J. Von Bergen explained to amend Area A with the note and option; Students can substitute higher number courses from the list with course descriptions which will avoid students from taking lower level courses; courses selected on the list are Title 5 courses. J. Von Bergen gave other examples of GE Resolution II with GE waiver by course or by major. GE II Resolution was brought forth twice to GE via Public Comment. Both GE Resolutions I and II and its options were further discussed within the group. Resolutions bringing to GE was discussed and its deadline for catalog or possible addendum to catalog. Many concerns were shared in the past of GE committees rejecting course outlines with not just Biology & Chemistry. It was shared different committees are looking at courses with different criteria interpretations and courses are a moving target throughout the process. J. Bearden shared as before GE Chair, not one course was denied during his time. Motion to refer Resolution II to GE Committee for further study and review Approved (M/S; R. Hiscocks/S. Toruno-Conley) - 6 Votes, 5 Opposed and 2 Abstained Parking Regulation It was eradicated at DGC.
