Lewis): Motion to approve 4/10/23 agenda with listed change Approved (M/S; P. Gunder/J. Clark) Unanimous, 12 Votes Delete Cameron Bluford from Special Item #9 IDEA Committee Membership, A. Simone will go into Consent Calendar for approval. 4.Approval of Previous Minutes 3/13/23 (M. Lewis): Motion to approve 3/13/23 minutes with listed changes Approved (M/S; L. Giambattista/J. Clark) 11 Yes, 0 Oppose, 1 Abstain - To note voting on #1 & #2 was specific however #3 was not specific enough. Voting on the process that was not specific was of great concern. - To strike any comments referring to Dr. Ralston comments; Dr. Ralston could not confirm these, she was not present during 3/13/23 meeting. - Hiring Veronica Neal to do the audit was not a prospective or has not been arranged. - To correct students name from Renee Brown to Brene Brown. 5.Communications and Questions (M. Lewis): - M. Lewis commented how beautiful today is, all agreed. After months and months of downpour, sunshine was pleasant today. - ASCCC Spring Plenary is approaching. Senate might be interested in the clarifying the disciplines list for Ethnic Studies. M. Lewis continued that there are no major changes. Its to clarify both name of degrees; African American Studies or Black Studies are acceptable. Second, motion is a request for the State Legislature to clarify what Academic Freedom means on Title 5. Third, for State Legislature to take Academic Senate out of the Brown Act. M. Lewis explained Academic Senate is a Brown Act bodies under State Law. Theres going to be a resolution to remove Academic Senate from Brown Act during Spring Plenary sessions. - M. Lewis encourage everyone to attend the Spring Plenary Conference. - District Official Board Policy change is to include Posthumous AA Degrees If a student is more than half way of their degree requirements and pass away, the Governing Board will grant the student their degree for familys comfort and closure. - Local Ӱɴý M. Lewis explained the predicament the Senate faced on 3/13/23 meeting regarding Ethnic Studies, Institutional Racism Assessment Scope of Work & RAP Proposal and M. Lewis having to choose for Senate to vote without going to second read, however it would have meant delaying something that the group had worked very hard on for at least 6 months. M. Lewis put out a call, theyre still looking for committee for Ӱɴýs Presidential Hiring Committee and looking for forum questions ideas. Jen Saito is collecting the questions. Were still looking for individuals for the facilities planning task force. The group will help develop the next facilities master plan; including all things we need such as park course. M. Lewis highlighted open committee positions. College Administration: SEM Student Success Team Model D. Franco gave an introduction what SEMs been working on over the last years; SEM 2.0, the second project done for the Strategic Enrollment Management Work Group and introduced Student Success Team Model, a group of different cross- functional individuals designed to 5 different pathways including key activities and under each Instructional Deans collaborating with various departments presented in the graph. We have about 1,100-1,500 students per pathway with various levels of support and involvement of students day to day need. Two considerations were requested from Senate; 1) Student Success Teams Model (Instructional Dean, Faculty Mentor, Counselor, Student Success Coach, and Student Ambassadors, and 2) to bring in SST Coaches to define students needs. - The team will also be defining what type of professional development is needed both individually in each of the 5 roles and collectively. - Suggestions from Senate: 1) to have student interactions; peer to peer in the model (example Pasadena College), 2) peer to peer moral support prior to going through processes, 3) to explain the human interactions and community activities especially when writing the job descriptions, it needs to be included in the job descriptions, 4) hire more students on campus, 5) to look into allowing non-credit students to be able to work. - Next Steps: a) Bi-monthly SEM 2.0 ISSR working group meetings continue making progress on established goals, b) define roles and functions of each student success team member, c) develop comprehensive training model for student success teams. - A total of 5 Program Coordinators will support from repurposed positions; 2 positions currently occupied and aware of the transition and will also be repurposing and 3 current vacant positions (Assessment Center, Outreach, and unnamed). Send an email to D. Franco for any questions. Committee Update: TLC Leadership had a discussion regarding plans for their next meeting, no official meeting. Planning Working on the next version of all College Assembly, integrating plans; master, equity, and other plans and inventory of what were doing to facilitate success in areas and identifying gaps of what were not doing. The work will continue through the next Planning meeting. 5. b) Planning Planning Surveys, coming up is feedback for Program Review process. GE GE finished the Academic Senate request report on local degree and English data, on the agenda for the next Senate meeting. IDEA Mini grants were approved including 1) Child Care student workers to attend Equity conference, 2) guest speaker for History, 3) proposal for the Ethnic Studies class, and a discussion to revamp the Equity Grant to align with equity information on working model. 6.Consent Calendar: Motion to approve Consent Calendar Approved (M/S; L. Giambattista): Scheduling English 100E M. Lewis shared current scheduling for English 100 class/college composition for transfer. English has been working on English 100E, a 4-unit class combined (3 unit still transferrable and 1 unit, non-transferrable). Management had concerns of scheduling the course. Various meetings took place between the English department and management and did not come to a satisfactory resolution. English department filed a formal grievance. It was placed on the agenda because M. Lapriore requested it and its based on curriculum decision. Senates concerns: a) weve never talked about grievances in the Senate, why are we talking about it, b) is it working conditions, c) why do we want to have a voice to get involve that deals with contract issue between management and faculty. There is a 10+1 component with faculty purview of courses and changing courses, there is precedent for Senate weighing in favor of grievance, when grievance comes from a department or division level; to offer a supporting voice and to educate our peers. The purpose of being here is for information purposes, it impacts everyones students, its a prerequisite to classes, students need to be ready for English 100 and guided pathways places students in English 100. English department needs help and support for future setbacks. M. Lapriore explained history of all English courses, its transitions, and how this course would benefit our students with additional support. The shift is not about extra support for everybody, its about individualized design support for each student which is difficult. Currently, English department wants to go in the direction to only English 100E and Office of Instruction is more in favor of split. Management concerns: a) direct instructional time for students, b) timed tasks while managing life, workload and their other instruction, c) give some options for students, d) other students have various needs, e) guided pathways model more time for students, and f) issue about time. - Students arent getting what they need on 3-unit course, designed if students need more they can get it outside of the course, success in 3-unit course does not mean completion of CSLOs, to teach not just information for the course. Started at week 2, we are now at week 11. - OI is not saying no, its a process, takes time, drastic change affects students. Shared Maths drastic change were recognized nationally. - Behind the scenes process and practices were discussed. No voting will take place today, possible further discussion in the next meeting. 10.First Reading: b) Distance Education Meetings Impact of Brown Act Rules S. Hubbard shared DE membership, took a poll and DE will not meet quorum based on Brown Act rules of in-person meetings only. DE had an unofficial meeting to discuss next steps, no voting was taken, clarified DE is Senates subcommittee, and is asking Senate for assistance. - M. Lewis shared this is happening all around, DE committees are not meeting quorum; DVC DE is also having a hard time meeting quorum. By strict letter of the law, Brown Act rule says that a standing subcommittee of a legislative body that meets regularly and has on ongoing charge and purview is in itself a Brown Act group. - DE is requesting for Senate to consider change for DE to be its Advisory Council. - Discussions were around: 1) Advisory Council for Senate carries the weight of the Senate, 2) various work are being looked into in virtual world, 3) various are asking legislators to look into the whole idea of Brown Act for certain committees, 4) if now the way we conduct business online, how do we raise the level of meeting Brown Act, 5) we need to come up with ways we conduct business effectively virtually, 6) you cant just change the name without changing the work that you do, 7) if DEs work changes, sounds like Senates workflow will also change, 8) DE can make recommendations, and 9) various work of DE doesnt have to be a Brown Act. - Tabled for next meeting. 11.Discussion: Data We Need for Equity Evaluation at Ӱɴý Tabled, ran out of time. Tell Us Something Good! Tabled, ran out of time.12.Upcoming Items and Committees: (M. Lewis): a) Suggestions? Tabled, ran out of time.13.Meeting adjourned 5:03 p.m. Ӱɴý Minutes of the Academic Senate (ASC) PAGE \* MERGEFORMAT 2 );IJNZ[klmu v } ƻyqlgbq[ hE5\ h)\ hS/\\ h.\hE5>*\hUhF/P\ h|\ h5\ h.5\h!5>*\hky.5>*\ hj:[\ hE\ h}O\h|hky.5\h|hky.5>*\ hhokh5h6 h|hth h|hky.h;h}OhEh6 h)h{0J #[v 4<<$IfgdvPm$$<<$Ifa$gdGlm$pxx^p`gd)px^p`gd @8xgd @8gd97 - . 7 9 Ǽwj`YOHO h^u5>*hVNhx5>* h65>*hVNh,R5>* *hQ/hQ5>*\h zhQ5>*\hh\ h{\ hK&G\ h?\hVNhB7\hVNh6"\hVNh!\hVNh5>*\hVNh!5>*\h^u5>*\hVNhky.5>*\ h,%hky. hvP5\h,%hky.5\hEhE\ hS/\\ zh[N x$Ifgdvm$ x$Ifgdnm$$xx$Ifa$gdGlm$kd$$If4408<$6 t0`9622 l4af4yt2X : % G|laSSEE & F $IfgdLm$ & F$Ifgdj:[m$ $Ifgdnm$$x$Ifa$gdnm$kd$$If408<$6 t0`9622 l4af4yt2X9 : > $ % FGMOQl$JK6BDQ`abcʾʾʾʰʢʐvh+h+5>*hi."hHhUIh1;h|hhw"5>*h5h5H*h5hh5>*hHhLhL5>*hLhhH*hhhw"hhw"H*ho ho 5>*ho hhw"h}75>*"X5>*-$$408<$6 t0`9622 l4af4yt2X$If^gd+m$ & F$Ifgd1;m$ & F $Ifgdm$ & F $IfgdLm$cdeghoD{|}~ƾwog_WOGhS/\5>*\h}P5>*\h*y5>*\h 5>*\h*5>*\hf5>*\hb5>*\ *hQ/hd hh+hFhahK h+Qh+Q hK5 hS/\5 h5 h5 hQO5hdhVNhd5 hd5>* h^u5>* hf5>*h zhd5>*\hd5>*\ *hQ/hQh)h|5>*6$$408<$6 t0`9622 l4af4yt2X8$If^8gd+m$ & F $Ifgd+Qm$ & F$Ifgdm$ $Ifgddm$$x$Ifa$gdnm$~1Od$Ifgdq7 & Fd$Ifgdq7x$If^gdb$xx$Ifa$gdGlm$01NOvŽ}ume`[VQ h\ h?\ h\ h;` \h`)5>*\h 5>*\hL5>*\h7Z5>*\ *h \Yhf5>*\h&5>*\h 5>*\h65>*\ *hQ/hb hq7h-h-h3zh hq7hq7hs%>* h+5 hV5 hq75 hEp5 h5 hzYl5hb5>*\h^u5>*\p^L4 $d$If^gd d$If^gd,$xx$Ifa$gdGlm$kd$$If408<$6 t0`9622 l4af4pyt2X&';<xe4Mcde}{|SȾþþùù h)\ hk\ hbdQ\ h4L\ hQ.\h>h&5>*\ h&5\h;` hv0\ hv0\ hQU\ hEH3\ h'\ ha\ h2\ hj \ heW\ h\ hF\ hh\ h$\ hvj\ hZ\4'<jfp|K !d$Ifgd:Gd$Ifgd4Ld$Ifgd & Fd$IfgdM $d$If^gdRY6K y!z!!!!"" ### #B#K#h#~# $G$$%%%%%&žͮͮͩ~wq h!APJ h!A5PJh!A5>*\ *hQ/h&h h;X5>*\h hTi5>*\ h!A\ h\ h:)\hVhV5>*\ h&5\hO+KhO+K\ hV\ hk~\ h6\ hT\ hO\ hv;\ h ~/\ h \ hk\ h:G\*!# ##%%% &\LA $IfgdLym$$$Ifa$gdLym$kdS$$If408<$6 t0`9622 l4af4yt2X & Fd$IfgdMd$IfgdV &&#'''''(qaS & F$IfgdMm$$$Ifa$gdLym$kd$$If408<$6 t0`9622 l4af4yt2X $IfgdLym$&"'#''''''''''(((C(D(u(v(w(x((((((((˾ytgy^yVNh5>*\ *hQ/h8*h2Xh2X0Jj *h2XU *h2Xj *h2XUh h:5>*ʴ<h<5>*PJ h<5PJ hS/\5PJheh8*5>*PJhl5>*PJ *h \Yhl5>*PJh8*5>*\h 5>*\h65>*\ *hQ/h!Ah!Ah0PJ h!APJ h0PJ(D(w(((((n\QC & F $Ifgdm$ $Ifgd^RAm$$xx$Ifa$gdGlm$kdd$$If408<$6 t0`9622 l4af4yt2X & F$Ifgd<m$(((;)j)k)l)m)n)o)})~))))))))))))Ǽxpc\UOF?
