Who is it designed to serve? Will the program offer an Associate Degree? A Certificate of Achievement? The purpose of this program is to provide Ӱɴý students (general population, students interested in health/wellness/fitness) the option of an AS-T in Public Health. Rationale What role would this program fulfill in the college curriculum? Why is it important to offer this program? This program will fulfill a health-related degree option in the college curriculum. Our current health related options include Kinesiology, Biology and Nursing. The Public Health AS-T curriculum is a broad range of study which includes (but is not limited to) Community Health, Clinical Health, Health Care, Wellness, etc. Public Health is vital at all levels (global, national, state and local) and is especially relevant today as health concerns rise with rate increases in obesity, chronic disease, addiction, stress, anxiety, and depression. Curriculum and Needs Assessment/Feasibility List the proposed new courses for the program, including the title, number of units, and a brief course description. Kines 200, Personal Health and Wellness, 3 units Examination of current health related issues to individual and community health: Physical fitness, nutrition, psychosomatic health, sexual behavior, reproductive health, sexually-transmitted disease, drugs, consumerism, preventive medicine and environment. Kines 210, Introduction to Public Health, 3 units This course provides an overview of the disciplines of community and public health. Students will build foundational knowledge, including the importance of public health and the health of a community, along with an understanding of the political and social factors that impact public health policy. List the course requirements for the major. CORE Courses: 27-29 minimum units Personal Health and Wellness Introduction to Public Health Introduction to Statistics Introduction to Biology w/or w/out lab Introduction to Chemistry (4) Or General Chemistry for Science Majors (5) Introductory Psychology Human Anatomy w/lab Human Physiology w/lab 1 additional course from below: Intro to Kinesiology Introduction to Nutrition Science Introduction to Sociology Introduction to Human Sexuality Principles of Microeconomics Principles of Macroeconomics List the proposed sequence of program-specific courses and the projected enrollment: Fall-Year 1 (list the courses to be offered each term and the projected enrollment) Personal Health and Wellness Intro to Bio Intro to Stat Spring-Year 1 Intro to Public Health Intro to Chem Fall-Year 2 Human Anatomy Intro to Psych Spring-Year 2 Human Physiology Intro to Kinesiology Projected number of students in the program*: Fall-Year 1, 50 Spring Year 1, 35 Fall-Year 2, 50 Spring Year 2, 40 * Unduplicated total headcount in program-specific courses. Enrollment projections are based on: [enrollments in experimental (900) courses to be included in the program; enrollments in similar programs in the college or nearby colleges; etc.] Projected Annual FTES (to be completed by the Office of Instruction) Year 1 ____________ Year 2 ____________ Do other colleges in the district or in neighboring districts offer a similar program? If so, provide the rationale for duplicating it at Ӱɴý. DVC and CCC offer this program. East County students should have this program available in their service area. For new CTE programs: provide labor market information and job market projections that support the establishment of this program. Sources for this information are provided in the Program and Course Approval Handbook (Chancellors Office). Also include the results of discussions with key local employers/potential advisory committee members. N/A What other departments at the college could be affected by adding this program? Explain and include the results of preliminary discussions with the affected departments. Bio, Chem, Math, Psych could all see additional enrollments by adding this program. Staffing Describe the initial staffing needed for the program, including the approximate number of full time and part time faculty and classified staff. Initial staffing could be covered with current Kinesiology Instructors.(full/part-time) Will new hires be required in order to offer the program? If so, are the pools of full time and/or part time faculty expected to be sufficient? New hires are not required to offer this program. How will the staffing needs change in years 2-4? With the new KAC (Kinesiology/Athletic Complex) the Kinesiology department is in a position to expand AA, Certificate and Course offerings. The current pandemic has identified, in new ways, the importance for individuals to practice proactive, healthy lifestyles. As awareness of public and community health/wellness increase, we expect to see interest in our curriculum and experience enrollment growth to support more faculty in the department. Operating Budget Outline the initial budget required to fund the program. Briefly explain any budget item as needed to make the purpose clear. Staffing (Types: hourly classified, reassigned time, stipends, student do not include faculty or permanent staff) N/A Supplies N/A Consultants N/A Travel N/A Interprogram (Copies, postage, etc.) N/A Equipment (list all major equipment) N/A See Instructional Technology Department for recommendations and cost estimates What additional costs should be anticipated in subsequent years? N/A Facilities Describe the facilities needed for the program in the first year (classrooms, labs, offices, other). KAC What additional facilities needs should be anticipated in subsequent years?
