Who is it designed to serve? Will the program offer an Associate Degree? A Certificate of Achievement? The purpose of this series of courses with in the automotive program is to provide comprehensive training and skills development in specialized automotive services, namely auto detailing, PDR, and auto vinyl wrap. It aims to prepare students for a wide range of career opportunities within the automotive industry and self-employment. The Automotive program has worked hard to attract more nontraditional and diverse students with a modest measure of success. The creation of this pathway will be utilized to create a pathway that interests a more diverse student population by offering courses that are less focused on the strongly mechanically inclined to students that are more detail oriented and possess skills that are useful in a creative and artistic application. New students will receive a certificate upon completion of the two courses. Rationale What role would this program fulfill in the college curriculum? Why is it important to offer this program? Incorporating detailing, PDR, and vinyl wrap classes into the Ӱɴý automotive technology program aligns education with industry demands, boosts students' employability, and empowers them to explore entrepreneurship opportunities. It ultimately equips students with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in a dynamic and competitive automotive industry. The demand for auto detailing, PDR, and vinyl wrap services has been steadily increasing due to consumer preferences for vehicle aesthetics and maintenance. Offering these classes ensures that students are prepared to meet market demand and capitalize on industry trends. Our highest goal and measure of success is to provide these specialized skills and empower our students to start their own businesses in the automotive aftermarket industry. Curriculum and Needs Assessment/Feasibility List the proposed new courses for the program, including the title, number of units, and a brief course description. Auto 10N / Introduction to automotive Detailing / Non-Credit or CDCP This course is designed to provide students with a fundamental understanding of the techniques and tools used in automotive detailing. Students will learn how to clean, polish, and protect a vehicle's exterior and interior surfaces. The course will cover basic cleaning and detailing techniques, including washing, claying, polishing, and ceramic coating. Students will also learn about different types of detailing products and their uses. This is a hands-on course that will develop practical skills through practice in a simulated detailing environment. They will learn how to use various detailing tools and equipment, such as buffers, polishers, and detailing brushes. Students will also learn about proper safety procedures and the importance of following industry standards Auto 11N / Automotive PDR and Vinyl wrap / Non-Credit or CDCP This course covers the basics of Automotive Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) and Vinyl Wrapping techniques. Students will receive instruction on Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) and Vinyl Wrapping techniques. Learning the skills to master the precision techniques needed to restore vehicle exteriors to perfection and customize them with eye-catching vinyl wraps. The course aims to provide a foundational understanding of these automotive customization practices. List the course requirements for the major. Enrollment projections are based on: [enrollments in experimental (900) courses to be included in the program; enrollments in similar programs in the college or nearby colleges; etc.] Projected Annual FTES (to be completed by the Office of Instruction) Year 1 ____________ Year 2 ____________ Do other colleges in the district or in neighboring districts offer a similar program? If so, provide the rationale for duplicating it at Ӱɴý. No other Programs similar exist in the district or bay area. (closest known program with comparable courses is in Los Angeles.) For new CTE programs: provide labor market information and job market projections that support the establishment of this program. Sources for this information are provided in the Program and Course Approval Handbook (Chancellors Office). Also include the results of discussions with key local employers/potential advisory committee members. The Detailing, PDR and Vinyl wrap sector of the industry falls within the overall automotive industry and trends. The growth of this sector fluctuates between 2.4% and 6% in some years. However, the entrepreneurial nature of this section of the industry often causes our typical data gathering systems to miss the true growth and demand for future employees and individual businesses that are built from this skill set. Explain and include the results of preliminary discussions with the affected departments. No departments will be affected by the addition of this program. A future partnership with the Graphic design courses has been discussed for the development of a second certificate to be offered with the vehicle wrap course. Staffing Describe the initial staffing needed for the program, including the approximate number of full time and part time faculty and classified staff. No additional staff will be needed. Will new hires be required in order to offer the program? If so, are the pools of full time and/or part time faculty expected to be sufficient? How will the staffing needs change in years 2-4? These series of courses are not expected to change staffing needs in the short or long term. Operating Budget Outline the initial budget required to fund the program. Briefly explain any budget item as needed to make the purpose clear. These courses received their initial funding from the 2022-2023 Perkins grant. No additional funds are required to begin the courses. Staffing (Types: hourly classified, reassigned time, stipends, student do not include faculty or permanent staff) Current tool room staffing is adequate to support the program. Supplies Supplies sufficient for the first 3 years have been purchased through Perkins grant funds. Operational expenses are modest and will be rolled into the current automotive budget. Consultants No Consultants will be needed. Travel No travel expenses are associated with this program Interprogram (Copies, postage, etc.) N/A Equipment (list all major equipment) See Instructional Technology Department for recommendations and cost estimates No additional equipment will be needed at this time. What additional costs should be anticipated in subsequent years? Long term replacement of polishing equipment and consumables may be needed. Most costs are minimal and can be supported through the automotive department budget. The most significant cost are the non-reusable vinyl rolls, a future lab fee (2-3 years from now) may be instituted or a minor adjustment to the automotive budget will be needed in the amount of $600-$800 per year. Facilities Describe the facilities needed for the program in the first year (classrooms, labs, offices, other). The small lab 512B has sufficient space and resources to support the program long term, classroom 505 will be used for lecture hours. What additional facilities needs should be anticipated in subsequent years?
